Fantastic news. The introduction of a 2m2f Novice Grade 1 chase is surely in the pipeline to headline Day 5.

Don’t you mean the Grey Mares Bumper for Conditional Jockeys, TTC?

“This season’s Cheltenham Festival was hailed a success by Renton, in particular the feel-good atmosphere on course with crowds returning to the meeting for the first time since 2020.”

Feel-good? Thousands of pissed idiots shouting and bawling. Not my idea of good.

All the powers that be seem to see is SHORT TERM MONEY.

There will be a match race or walkover within 5 years. The Turners was nearly one this year, and wants binning immediately. Obviously won’t happen.

The Turners was a match TTC. How far behind were the other two? Neither made a serious effort to get involved and had their own match for the third place prize money, which turned out to be second.

Actually, I’m in favour (as I won’t be there).

Extra day, switch back to six-race cards so just a the “grey mares who are in foal bumper”
and the Trainer’s “Egg And (Silver) Spoon” Races to add to the cards, soak the sockless brigade for every penny of their extra disposable income, thus creating extra Jockey Club racecourses funds to subsidise cheap midweek racing elsewhere for me.

    Winner!

It’s crap but perhaps they could compromise by sticking the drearier fiddling handicaps and pointless mares races on the Saturday so that only feel obliged to tune in to the gc

Never thought I’d say this one day: Some excellent stuff there from AP

Completely right about the prize money too

Tony McCoy gets a LOT of flak for endlessly sitting on the fence, but fair play to him here – that’s the strongest anti-racing establishment view I’ve have EVER heard him express.

Strongest? the only anti-racing establishment view I’ve ever heard him express. Gobsmacked he’s expressed a view that I agree with.

It is madness, it is all about money sadly.
When you have idiots like Josh Apiafi promoting it and saying it will be good to have the Saturday extra day so familys and kids can go I wonder if the lunatics have taken over the asylum. To think he thinks it would be good for familys with kids to go he must never have been to the Festival and stood there in the stand unable to move because it is so packed.
I have been going for the last 25 years all 3 then 4 days and to be honest when they move it to 5 days then I will stop going.

Great stuff again from Tony McCoy on ITV Racing this afternoon! He went down in my estimation a lot after the Bryony Frost case, but is speaking a lot of sense about the fifth day.

I’m still waiting to see a single argument in favour that doesn’t come down to “We’ll make more money by selling tickets for five days instead of four, so let’s cash in while we can”.
And even that specific point has been rebuffed by many people here and elsewhere referring to the law of diminishing returns.
As previous posters have pointed out, AP was very good on the subject in the week and again today. But I get a clear sense that minds have been made up and suggestions of any form of meaningful consultation are moonshine.

Another good example yesterday why more isn’t necessarily better – Allaho – What real incentive is there for connections to take their chance in the Gold Cup next year rather than be long odds on and run in the Ryanair?
Champion Chase or Gold Cup in the old days or don’t run. Much better.
How boring was it to watch Quevega trot up 6 times at short odds in the Mares hurdle?

It was amazing how much they got right with racing in the good old days compared to now. Like football all they seem interested in now is money.

How much evidence do they require that there is far too much racing, nevermind put on more but they continue to do absolutely nothing about it. Look at the the pitiful fields for Newmarket on Friday.
