Had the winner joint top on overall form but couldn’t have him on recent form. However, with my selections beaten I was only too happy to shout him home and he won it going away having been under the cosh before the turn.
Incidentally, not a surprise Coole Cody runs his best races at Cheltenham as, looking at his record, it’s the only place he runs these days!

To be fair to Skelton, he has received a lot of justified criticism for kicking on much too soon at Cheltenham before. Maybe he has over-compensated?
March 17, 2022 at 19:25 #1588292Has anyone actually seen Spiritofthegames on the Cheltenham run-in before? The loveable rogue does not fancy it one bit if he looks like getting his head in front before the line lets put it that way, there is plenty of evidence of that and Skelton probably had that in mind.
March 17, 2022 at 20:31 #1588311May well be the case but it didn’t look great for backers , it been a bit of a damp squid for the Skelton’s so far , they,ll be praying for a big run in the GC tomorrow

March 17, 2022 at 21:09 #1588326Brilliant winner! Nice to see an 11 year old winning after running in all the 2m4f handicaps at Cheltenham in the last years.
