1998 Champion Hurdle, one very slick jumper.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
February 7, 2024 at 23:48 #1680305Sea Pigeon finally getting his revenge on Monksfield in the 1980 Champion Hurdle and then following up the next year to join Hatton’s Grace as the joint oldest horse to win the race at the age of 11. Incidentally they are also both the only 10 yr olds to win the race as well.
February 8, 2024 at 08:08 #1680316As “The Voice” said – “Dessie has done it!”
February 8, 2024 at 20:56 #1680386Wish you hadn’t posted that Yeats, as I’m still adamant that the I’ll fated Ten Plus would have won.
February 8, 2024 at 21:04 #1680388“He’s striding up to the line, the veteran ten-year-old! He’s won it at last!”
That was peak O’Sullevan.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 8, 2024 at 22:20 #1680397Has to be the 1987 Gold Cup.
February 8, 2024 at 22:29 #1680398Not sure O’Sullevan ever hit a peak in my opinion an overrated awful commentator.

February 8, 2024 at 22:34 #1680399Can’t imagine that 1987 Gold Cup in those conditions being run in modern times.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
February 8, 2024 at 22:39 #1680401Master Minded in his first Champion Chase.

February 8, 2024 at 22:50 #1680404Remember that race so well; we’d been waiting all day, didn’t know whether it would be run or not. I had Cybrandian backed, of course, one of my favourites, but got a great run for my money.
February 8, 2024 at 23:46 #1680408One Man finally getting a Festival win in the 1998 Champion Chase.
February 9, 2024 at 00:14 #1680409That day, One Man proved that there is only need for two Championship chases outside novice company at the Festival.
February 9, 2024 at 04:53 #1680416from a brief Golden Age of 2-mile chasers. Both 2nd and 3rd had put up mighty weight-carrying performances, enhancing the quality of the form, even though by time, as his age, I reckon Moscow Flyer was slightly past his best.
I’d have loved to see the Flyer over 3 miles
February 11, 2024 at 04:26 #1680801Some wonderful horses in those clips, was racing more exciting then, or is it just me?
Had no voice after watching Nortons Coin win.
I was there that day as well befair, things didn’t look good, but eventually they deemed it safe.
Ah, that brought back some memories apracing. I had my biggest win ever on Miinnehoma in that race. Bradbury Star was a big favourite of mine at the time, but I was convinced in my mind that Miinnehoma would win. His price was drifting and as it did, I kept going back and having more on.
Whether it was true or not, I was told afterwards that Scudamore wanted to ride Run For Free, but couldn’t, hence the drift in price.
Although there are some great races featured in this thread, this race is one of the most memorable at the Festival for me during my years of racing.
2004 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
Brave Inca and War Of Attrition…………two horses that gave everything they had that day. Don’t know how to put the video up like you professionals, but the link is below.https://youtube.com/watch?v=0qH4MqYH7CI%3Fsi%3D6TCKUxJbdS_QoDgj%26start%3D253

Perhaps extending the meeting to 5 days would help.
