Surprised to read that Ferdy is selling up at West Witton, and is to relocate to a base in Normandy.
Apparently his daughter and son in law live there, and the move fulfils his dream of training in France.
The facilities at West Witton are excellent, and I’ll be interested to see who locates there, as well as Ferdy’s progress in France.May 11, 2013 at 10:50 #439307Y’know it really upset me when they mentioned it on TML. Seems like the end of an era and worried that it’s another northern trainer gone.

I agree Moehat. The days of excellence in the North seem a long time ago. Happy memories of the Dickinsons, Peter Easterby, Arthur Stephenson, Gordon Richards et al.
May 11, 2013 at 19:16 #439355Sorry I don’t echo your sentiments.
I am pleased to see the back of him. I don’t think he is a loss to British racing.I think it is a plus.
Don’t forget he was exposed a number of years ago for allegedly pulling horses.May 12, 2013 at 02:15 #439392Really,you are not serious? I can’t believe it.A trainer with a blemished record.Wow !!!

Don’t forget he was exposed a number of years ago for allegedly pulling horses. And still doing it if results are anything to go by. I won’t miss him one bit
May 12, 2013 at 20:14 #439471On being exposed as a puller of horses, he attempted some heavy stuff on camera. We’re well rid of him, pity many others wouldn’t accompany him to France.
May 16, 2013 at 08:56 #439716Ferdy is a great trainer, and all this talk of pulling horses is garbage. Anyone who actually knows the man will know he passionately wants winners, as many as he can get, and is not going to miss one he could win for anything.
There is no finer horseman in English racing, his horses have longevity and are treated well.
I speak from personal knowledge and I am not a betting man. Could it be that some of those who criticise are embittered punters looking to blame someone else for the bets that didn’t come in?

Don’t make me lau…actually scratch that because i’m in hysterics !!!!!
May 16, 2013 at 23:47 #439778The man clearly had the ability to pull one off though even that seems to have eluded him lately. It should be obvious there will have been embittered punters when mugged by one of his off a low mark when it`s impossible to know if the horse retains any ability from the way it`s been running. He seemed to make a complete mess of training a horse with genuine talent. Not one I`ll miss.

The facilities at West Witton are excellent and the horses are most certainly treated well. I have visited on a couple of occasions and have spoken to Ferdy at length, finding him to be engaging and extremely illuminating.
Whilst understanding that he isn’t to everyone’s taste, I can only speak as I find.
To listen to some views, you would think that every other horse in every other yard was running on its merits on every run, being tried over its correct distance, on its favoured ground, using the optimum tactics. Mmmmh !May 17, 2013 at 16:12 #439825The quality of horse Ferdy had in his yard was worsening every season. No doubt down to this long running recession we’re in and owners cutting back on a few non essentials. I know Ferdy and his two lads, Paul and Barry, quite well and wish them every success in France with the bloodstock venture.
