Mollers everytime. Probably the smartest set of colours in the game and some great horses have carried them down the years too i.e. Pentire, Teenoso and other smart types such as Gulland, Island House, First Island and Swallow Flight.
Sadly Geoff Wragg, the trainer for Mollers Racing is in sharp decline and the colours these days, which is such a shame.
Ballymacoll Stud/Lord Weinstock’s colours are simple, but smart and noticable and he always seemed to give his horses such lovely names.
July 2, 2008 at 17:01 #171366My favourite one’s growing up were Roberto’s – childishly probably because of the pom pom on the cap – beige, brown sleeves, quartered cap with, yes, you guessed it, a brown pom pom.
I liked the Basil Thwaites colours as well, as carried by the great Ten Plus, an the colours (not disimilar) carried by Grand Canyon and Navigation, but with a yellow Ccross of Lorraine instead of a diamond.
Finally, Jodami’s colours also floated my boat – green, black sash, black and white hooped sleeves and cap.
Hey… Didn’t some of Jenny Pitmans also have a bobble. Toby Tobias colours or did I imagine that? I think it makes them look more comforting.
Have to say Khalid Abdullas look the classiest but I do like Sheik Mohammeds personal maroon one also.
I dont think you can get the patchwork one any more. Not allowed.

July 2, 2008 at 23:37 #171430The colours of arms dealer Wafic Said are probably my favourite.
Green with white chevron, white sleeves, green cap with white star. It also helps if they are accompanied with a stunning chestnut like Bosra Sham.
What a sight that was!

I’m squinting my eyes tring to picture that wonderful sight and the cap is still as i described it…it will have to stay that way now i suppose I haven’t seen the colours in a long time!

July 3, 2008 at 01:23 #171445Was it not a white cap with a black star?

July 3, 2008 at 15:50 #171544All white were registered to one of the Darley entourage until recently – used to have horse with Ed Dunlop if i recall correctly.
That would be Surprise Encounter, merely hinted at above, ‘owned’ by Ahmed Buhaleeba. His brother Abdulla raced his horses in all orange silks which were sported by the top class 2yo’s Lucky Story and Shamardal. Lucky Story was taken over by Godolphin as a 3yo and Shamardal suddenly changed connections before he ran in the Dewhurst. Until 2001 the brothers had runners in different silks and under different names, being known as Ahmed and Abdulla Ali. I believe there are several other family members who were involved in ownership. An interesting episode in racing history.
Seem to remember the switch in ownership having something to do with Buhaleeba wracking up huge losses at a London casino.
July 3, 2008 at 16:12 #171552Yes Trackside ~ mentioned that in my previous post re the all white silks.
July 4, 2008 at 10:53 #171630Michaal Tabor’s colours hit the spot everytime., especially at the top level of racing. Glowing, eccentric, and powerful all in one. When horses like High Chapparal carried these colours to success in places as far as America it gave you an extra happyness that the bloke was a cockney and made it through his own hard work and success..
Shame he’s not the most pleasant person, then. I find it hard to believe anyone could feel an "extra happyness [sic]" at seeing a Tabor winner!
July 4, 2008 at 13:11 #171670He’s A. Prince among men, surely?
July 4, 2008 at 14:27 #171687I don’t like him, Firefox. I’ve spoken to him several times and every time he’s been nothing short of downright rude and highly arrogant.
July 4, 2008 at 14:38 #171692Who’s calling who aggressive here?!?!
You have no idea under what conditions I have spoken to the man – and I can assure you that at no time have I ever been anything but polite towards him. He, however, displays nothing but rudeness, ignorance and arrogance towards many people. Oh, and I’ve come across him in the real world too – not staggering up to him at a race meeting either!
