Lemaire was declared to ride Special Duty but broke his leg at Compeigne yesterday so Queally replaces him JJM
Thank you sir.
Terrible luck, am I right in thinking someone else was on her at Newmarket? Stephan Pasquier?
Stephane Pasquier was indeed on board that day.
However he is injured- recovering from a broken tibia (lower leg bone) sustained in the paddock at Saint Cloud.
Lemaire was initially booked as replacement tomorrow. He has also now broken a leg so Queally steps in as third choice.
Pasquier has ridden her in all her lifetime starts – as Abdullah’s retained jockey in France. As such my concern would be it took Pasquier a long time to learn how to settle the filly so I can see Queally potentially lighting her up and using all her energy early doors – she is clearly quite highly strung.
I note with interest the refernces to Rainfall – yes she beat colts last time up but that was in a weakish looking Jersey (G3) – Red Jazz failed to frank the form in the Criterion – and this is a significant step up in class. Remember, Special Duty has a decision over Canford Cliffs, and Prix Jean Prat runner up Siyouni to her name albeit at 2.

My prices to beat are:
5/2 Lillie Langtry, 9/2 Strawberrydaqueri, 9/2 Rainfall, 7/1 Special Duty, 10/1 Gile Na Greine, 15/1 Spacious, 15/1 Music Show, 100/1 Lahaleeb
——————————————————–How someone in their right mind can put strawberrydaqueri as a shorter price than special duty, it just makes me laugh my head off. The horse hasn’t won a group 1 before, and it got beaten comfortably when it ran in one. Special Duty is a dual Guineas winner, in my opinion that should make it favourite for the race all together instead of a Coronation Stakes Winner and a Group 3/2 winner. But we shall find out today anyway.
July 7, 2010 at 10:44 #305184Del Boy,
How can I make Strawberrydaqueri shorter than Special Duty?
I don’t go by what race a horse “won”, I go by form. On how one horse faired agianst the next. If Special Duty had beaten Baine, Gile Na Graine, Sent For Heaven etc. in a seller instead of a 1000 Guineas, the form would be the same.
Special Duty was beaten fair and square by Liliside (by a head) in the French 1000. Mme Head’s filly was only a neck in front of Baine. Five horses finished within about a length, suggesting the form is not that great for a “Guineas”. Special Duty was in a photo finish with Jaqueline Quest in our 1000, who was 3rd in the Coronation, beaten a total of 3 ½ lengths by Lillie Langtry. Gile Na Greine just a head behind Special Duty in the 1000, was beaten 1 ¼ lengths by Lillie Langtry. Sent For Heaven beaten around a length in total by Special Duty, beaten out of sight by Lillie Langtry. So how anyone can think form suggests Special Duty should be shorter than Lillie Langtry is beyond me.
Look at all those who finished around Special Duty. Jaqueline Quest, Gile Na Greine, Sent From Heaven, Liliside, Baine; would they be anywhere near the price Special Duty is now? Much rather back the Bolger horse at around 20/1 than Special Duty at 7/2.It’s true Strawberrydaqueri has not won a Group 1, her only try was when well beaten in the Sun Chariot at the end of a busy season. Also unsuited by hold up tactics in a slowly run race. Like Special Duty, this is only Strawberrydaqueri’s second season to race and has progressed with almost every start. Better than distances suggest on winning reappearance at Newmarket, gave leader (who had the advantageous rail) a head start. Improved again in the Windsor Forest, she came 3 lengths clear (with Spacious) of Antara who’d won a Group 3 at Epsom easily. At the moment Spacious has the same form as Stoute’s runner, but the former is far more exposed. They both need to improve, but if Strawberrydaqueri maintains her progression will have an excellent chance.
Opinions eh!

Confirms what i already knew about Special Duty.
July 7, 2010 at 14:23 #305226It also confirms what a dreadful ride Music Show got at Royal Ascot.
I said at the time that I couldn’t believe how far back (and wide) she was kept in a race where all the ‘good’ horses were at the front of affairs. The pace was strong that day yes, but not as strong as it was at Newmarket today where she was only held up six lengths back.
Great ride by Hughes today, terrible ride by Moore at Royal Ascot.
July 7, 2010 at 14:25 #305227also strengthens my view earlier that StrawberryDaqueri isnt a group 1 horse.
July 7, 2010 at 16:54 #305259My prices to beat are:
5/2 Lillie Langtry, 9/2 Strawberrydaqueri,
9/2 Rainfall
, 7/1 Special Duty,
10/1 Gile Na Greine
, 15/1 Spacious, 15/1 Music Show, 100/1 Lahaleeb
15/1
Music Show
eh Ginge, that would be the e/w bet of the week for me!
I can feel a song coming on;-
I am what i am,
i dont want praise,i dont want pity,
i bang my own drum,
some think its noise,i think its pretty,
and so what if i love each sparkle and each bangle,
why not see things from a different angle,
your life is a sham,
till you can shout out "I am what i aaaaam"!July 7, 2010 at 16:58 #305262Spacious.
What is? The car park! Bit more required bigphil!
July 7, 2010 at 18:38 #305295I am afraid as predicted the toll two rough Guineas races have taken on Special Duty were obvious today – plus she als as predicted seemed to be set alight as the stalls opened and failed to settle. It would be wrong to say that was all that was wrong, as she was beaten too far for there not to have been other factors involved.
It would be harsh to write her off just yet but I can’t help thinking thatlike Ravinella her best days, by the July of her 3-y-o campaign, may be behind her.
July 7, 2010 at 21:55 #305330I dunno if I’d place alot of value on the form of this race. It seemed that the front fourr were stopping in no uncertain terms in the final furlong, after going flat to the mat for most of the race. Music Show just happened to pick up the pieces. She has deserved a Group 1 though in fairness.
July 7, 2010 at 22:23 #305334Like all of this years classics, that was a very odd, sticky race.

I’d take the opposite view – that Music Show needs a strongly run mile as a minimum (as demonstrated in her last 3 races now), and she was simply too good for them.
She looks a natural for the Nassau, imo.July 7, 2010 at 22:31 #305336Reet,
I’d agree that the strongly run mile suited her down to the ground, the Nassau’s 10f, right? That should be ideal for her. In her previous run’s this year she’s been staying on ot good effect. I think today, she probably wasn’t able go the early suicidle pace. The rest came back to her and Rainfall I believe. Not taking away from the winner, she’s deserved this win after seemingly everything going against her recently.

The Nassau’s just a few yards shy of 10f – MS is currently 6/1.
July 7, 2010 at 22:46 #305340I’d be far more interested in the 16/1 about Strawberrydaiquiri
July 7, 2010 at 22:48 #305341I would agree Music Show looked like a 10f filly in the Irish Guineas – well off the bridle early doors, satying on dourly near the finish.
Did anyone hear the nonsense from Cunningham on RUK that Special Duty failed to stay??? Incredible – I can only presume he was one of the many who predicted she would not win a guineas because she was a sprinter all winter? And now tries to dust off his ridiculous theory and give it renewed credence following a clearly below par run.
A truly remarkable man.
