Looked like he broke a hind leg as he landed over an early fence in the Hunter Chase … 2nd one lost at Wincanton today … so sad …
March 1, 2023 at 18:48 #1637435I can’t believe Alice Stevens saw the broken leg BEFORE the fence and still couldn’t pull the horse up.
That looked horrible…. May he rest in peace.March 1, 2023 at 18:54 #1637437Oh that’s terrible … I once saw a horse at a point-to-point beak a leg badly … got up, galloped off, followed the field and jumped fences – how I don’t know … it seemed an age before the huntsman managed to catch it …

I know your usual practice is to review and analyze any fatalities before you enlighten us all with your wisdom as to how it could have been avoided or where the trainer/jockey erred in their decision making, but I suggest you go back and take a further look.
She realized that there was an issue prior to the fence and looked to move across, but couldn’t because of a horse behind. Not sure if she could bypass the fence on the inside anyway. Desperately trying to yank on the handbrake leading up to the fence would also have been an issue.
Unfortunate as it was, she had little option but to jump the fence and then immediately pull up and dismount.
Surely you as an expert rider could see that?
March 1, 2023 at 21:48 #1637466You don’t have to write some kind of **** every time I post on this forum. I still can’t believe that she couldn’t pull the horse up. That’s extremely horrible to watch and surely not something the racing public wants to see.
Most likely she didn’t have the time to pull him up, even though she is a very experienced and successful rider. It’s just an opinion and I know she didn’t do that on purpose.
March 1, 2023 at 22:53 #1637471Geez, I don’t have time to comment on every post you make that is over opinionated Ruby, I’d be on here 24/7!!
You implied that she should have pulled the horse up before the fence and accentuate the word ‘BEFORE’ for much greater emphasis.
You then go on to say, “I still can’t believe that she couldn’t pull the horse up.”
And then in the same reply, continue with, “Most likely she didn’t have the time to pull him up, even though she is a very experienced and successful rider.”
Where does your valued opinion lie, should she have pulled the horse up, or she most likely didn’t have time?
March 2, 2023 at 12:20 #1637512I ride but at a suitable pace which is nowhere near that of a fit strong racehorse mid-race, galloping and locked on to the next fence – and Alice would have had no chance to act any differently – I didn’t take note of what happened in the seconds before I saw Exit Poll injured so seriously. That the poor lad actually jumped as safely as he did and didn’t totally crash over the fence was remarkable … the whole thing was sickening … I had only switched on to watch the Hunter Chases …
