Okay I’ll bring this thread along nice and slowly. In the 3:40 at Southwell we have an 8 runner race with a 1/4 favourite. Sounds like a race for an e/w bet to me.
All bets will be 1pt e/w unless otherwise stated.
Palias Polaire @ 12/1 (generally)
Howards Princess @ 33/1 (Totesport, VCBet)
November 20, 2006 at 14:32 #61968My Apologies. I’ve just gone to VCBet to put £10ew on Howards Princess (yes just £10ew) and was informed I cannot have £10ew but they’d be happy to let me have £9ew. Sorry people I suggest you go to Totesport to put the bet on. Given that my account is barely profitable I dread to think how much people with profitable accounts can put on:angry: :o
November 20, 2006 at 17:22 #61969Paloas Polaire 3rd @ 12/1
Howards Princess 2nd @ 33/1
Profit 7pts
A good start
November 20, 2006 at 20:21 #61970There you go .. first proper bet with an edge in your favour and you get your stakes cut back .. !
November 20, 2006 at 20:28 #61971They are taking the p*** quite frankly. I mean who refuses a £10ew bet?
November 21, 2006 at 12:49 #61972They will restrict your take out in each race .. you don’t want to try and win more than £500 with any one bet.
November 21, 2006 at 14:35 #6197314:50S
1pt ew Minster Shadow
November 21, 2006 at 21:42 #619745th. Loss 2pts
Running Total +5pts
November 21, 2006 at 23:37 #61975Did they really knock back the tenner and offer you 9? If so that is ludicrous.
November 22, 2006 at 00:12 #61976Yes Corm, I was being deadly serious
November 22, 2006 at 10:30 #61977As Dave says, it’s probably just a computer program restricting EW bets(where fav is very short) to a specified take out – in this case £300( £9 at 33/1).
Surprising for a company like Victor Chandler, who you would expect to lay any horse to lose something like £10K, without batting an eyelid, to the vast majority of backers, except regular EW ‘thieves’.
November 22, 2006 at 10:44 #61978The only thing I can add is that its true odds of winning were about 100/1 but its odds of placing perhaps 3/1. But yes they aren’t a small company as you say and I rarely use VC for e/w thievery as there prices aren’t normally very good!
Anyway on to todays racing and the 12:55 is a Beginners Chase with 8 runners and an odds on favourite. The favourite looks a proverbial good thing but strange things can happen in beginners chases and at a very speculative price:
1pt ew Lenny @ 66/1 (generally though VC go 25/1;) )
November 22, 2006 at 10:59 #61979An 8 runner handicap with an odds on favourite (2:45C).
Shining Joy is shorter both win and place on the exchanges than 2 bookies.
1pt ew Shining Joy @ 14/1 (Stan James, Sporting Odds
November 22, 2006 at 11:05 #61980And next up is the handicap at Kepton where the surely jaded favourite, Eccollo, turns out again. I looked at this race last night and came to the conclusion Safari Sunset was the best place option. Take the 20/1.
1pt ew Safari Sunset @ 20/1 (BetFred, Stan James, Totesport).
The only other race considered was the 13:05C. Carnival Town is drifting slightly, but needs to drift to 8/1 before it is backable e/w.

Carnival Town was sent off at 11/2 it didn’t touch 8/1. The favourite held on by a nose after a bad blunder at the last. Both Carnival Town and Leading Run look sure to be suited by further. Now if my other two place I’ll be asking Dave Jay questions about my e/w Lucky 15 :o
November 22, 2006 at 15:44 #61982You won’t get knocked back on your lucky15, ever, in fact they might even ask you to put some more on.
November 22, 2006 at 22:30 #61983I know someone who does get backed on e/w Lucky 15s at £300 a pop.
The other two were both unplaced. Loss 4pts
Overall Profit 13.2pts
