I’ve been instructed to put a bet on Italy 10/1 with Paddy Power

From what I’ve been forced to listen to I love Ireland and like Ukraine

Plenty of songs not yet released yet and the song the boy likes from Italy yet to qualify…

I like a bet on Eurovision. Not heard any of this year’s yet apart from the tiny snippet of the UK’s entry that’s been released.

Reserving judgement until I hear the whole thing, but first thoughts were it’s alright but not sounding like a winner.

Nathan dear boy 👦. Here we go I hope you are right but as Lemmy says “don’t forget the joker” which will render all bets under 109/1 pointless entirely. Rule one of Eurovision the winner will be clear a few days before the event.
Also as we know, it’s not on Merseyside this time and also as looks likely in an unrelated event Manchester City will be in attendance to collect the premiership title again.

I don’t remember my winning bet of Sweden last year being 1/100 a few days before the event

The song the boy said won last nights heat and moves through to the final of Sanremo

Merseyside beats Manchester in the history of the music department and also on European Cups won in Football. City won’t be winning every game, although with KDB and Haaland back they won’t be far off still all to play for in my book and I’ve got the better odds..

Haha, of all the people to get that response from I wouldn’t have predicted it would be you GT!

It’s been reasonably profitable for me over the years, and I enjoy all the nonsense of the event anyway.

Current favourite is 9/4 so that’s the minimum price of a winner. A 9/4 Eurovision winner pays the same a 9/4 horse. Any of the other entries could constitute value to those in the know.

Most of a bookie’s business is horses and football so that’s where their resources go. If you know the more obscure sports and events then you can do well (just as you can on horses and football of course). Doesn’t know how well you know your football, the books know more than you do so it’s going to take more work.

First post I’ve made in a while and I should perhaps nail my colours to the mast by declaring I can’t stand this stupid event. It might just be tolerable if it was judged solely on the calibre of the singer & song. However as we all know or should know that this isn’t the case with all kinds of rivalry and political shenanigans buried behind the scenes.
There’s one scenario I would love to see come about just to piss off the EU loving BBC not to mention the remainers, remoaners, rejoiners or whatever they call themselves now and that would be entering a song glorifying our leaving. Brexit to the tune of Rule Britannia?
    good luck to all

I’m not sure what a song contest that includes at least a dozen non-EU participants and is organised by the European Broadcasting Union has to do with the EU but don’t let that get in the way of a good rant.

The hated UK’s best finish for years was as a non-EU member. It happened because we entered a good song by a charismatic singer who entered very much into the spirit of things.

Anyway, enough of that, it’s all supposed to be a bit of fun :rose:

Exactly Richard, agree with all you’ve said.

Every year politics gets mentioned, but it’s far from the be all and end all. It’s just one variable amongst many in the same way the going is when analysing a race.

If people aren’t interested or think it’s beneath them, that’s fine. However, it’s just a bit of fun as far as I’m concerned, and money won betting on Eurovision (and indeed other TV shows) still works the same in the shops.

Politics is not the be all and end all of Eurovision, Marlingford / Richard, but it is a massive part of it… And yes, the UK did come second when the UK was / is hated. But it was by far the best song. Infinitely better than the one that won on the day… Got beat by Ukraine because they were / are at war with Russia. See what I mean… Politics.

I totally agree with Blackcountry Kid, “There’s one scenario I would love to see come about just to piss off the EU loving BBC not to mention the remainers, remoaners, rejoiners or whatever they call themselves now and that would be entering a song glorifying our leaving. Brexit”.

I do have a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that might win it for us.:

Rod Stewart’s 1970’s classic “Sailing” was turned into a football chant by Millwall supporters. Because the media kept on concentrating on the club’s reputation for hooliganism. So supporters fought back vocally with the chant “No-one Likes Us, We Don’t Care”. In the same way, we should be sticking two fingers up at Europe. UK Eurovision’s committee (or whatever they have) should invite the Millwall Supporters Club to support a proper singer. (I’d say Rod himself, but not sure he’d be in favour) to do a version of their chant, this time with proper music a la “Sailing”… Only sped up a little (but not as much as the chant)… Merging some lyrics of Sailing with No One Likes Us:

    Possible chorus:

    No one likes us
    No one likes us
    No one likes us
    we don’t care!

    We are Yew-Kay
    Suu-pa Yew-Kay
    We are Yyew-Kaay
    fr’m o’ve there!

Am sure some of Sailing”‘s other lyrics can be adapted…
These are the actual tyrics of “Sailing”:

I am sailing, I am sailing
    Home again, ‘cross the sea
    I am sailing stormy waters
To be near you, to be free
I am flying, I am flying
Like a bird ‘cross the sky
I am flying, passing high clouds
To be with you, to be free
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
Through the dark night, far away
    I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
Through the dark night far away
    I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say
We are sailing, we are sailing
    Home again, ‘cross the sea
    We are sailing stormy waters
To be near you to be free
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free, oh Lord

They can be adapted for a pro Brexit / Britain / UK song…. “to be free”.
