Bare form of his Nottingham win doesn’t look great but he’s obviously open to plenty of improvement
He has an entry in the Dante that will tell us plenty more
There is plenty of speed on the dams side of the pedigree so be interesting to see how he handles the step up in trip
May 3, 2022 at 20:05 #1596830A top price of 5/1 for The Derby about New London, who has an OR of 99 after winning a 1m2f novice contest by a couple of lengths in a nothing special time is truly SHOCKING value.
He needs to win the Chester Vase by half the length of the Roodee tomorrow to justify those odds.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 3, 2022 at 20:34 #1596832Yes it’s a disgrace of a price Ian
How he’s halved in price since I took 10/1 (which I hesitated to take) I have no idea whatsoever
As I said in the oaks thread the bookies antepost prices are just dreadful across the board
The 1000/2000 guineas showed that with most of the runners going off much bigger prices than they had been in the weeks leading up to the race
If he does win easily tomorrow they will probably cut him to 3/1 at best too
May 4, 2022 at 15:15 #1596892Impressive win by Changingoftheguard,
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2022 at 15:18 #1596893New london hung all over the place, terrible performance
Luxembourg looking more and more likely

I wouldn’t put off anyone taking the 12/1 with Unibet for The Derby.
He’s just slaughtered colts with ORs of 99, 87 and 98.
Hell of a “second string” if they run him.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 4, 2022 at 15:34 #1596895Added Changingoftheguard 10-1 ew.
He reminds me of Anthony Van Dyck.
Not flashy, just professional and well balanced. And bred to relish a faster surface too so any ground will do.May 4, 2022 at 15:34 #1596896COTG deserves to be second favourite.
We must stop agreeing, Ian.
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2022 at 20:34 #1596922I thought that looked a very good performance today. He looks like a horse that may cope better with Epsom than Luxembourg and I’d say 10/1 or better is definite value.
May 4, 2022 at 21:01 #1596928Am on both Luxembourg and Changingoftheguard.
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2022 at 21:03 #1596929Any thoughts on Piz Badile?
I took the 20s last week, Buckaroo boosted his Ballysax form on Monday in a listed race albeit over a shorter distance. Was seriously impressed with his battling quality in the Ballysax and they pulled miles clear of the rest. DOB said today hes going straight to Epsom which im happy witb as i think there’s still plenty more improvement in him having only 3 runs.
May 4, 2022 at 21:05 #1596930Mike007 great minds think alike. Looks very similar to avd and same running style. Surely an ew bet to nothing as he will be there at the business end.
May 4, 2022 at 21:12 #1596933“Am on both Luxembourg and Changingoftheguard.”
Same – 11/4 and 12/1.
I can’t rate Changingoftheguard higher than 109 today, I rate Luxembourg 116 and think it will take 120 to win it, but Changingoftheguard won in style and looks an uncomplicated progressive colt who can make his own running.
“But will he cope with faster ground at Epsom?” I hear at the back.
Get with the programme and get into the 21st century.
Andrew Cooper was born holding a watering can (it was a difficult birth) and the days of The Derby being run with the word “Firm” in the going description are long gone.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 4, 2022 at 21:37 #1596938I am not expecting Changingoftheguard to make the running in the Derby. He did today to get a tactical edge in a very small field.
Now its over to Walk Of Stars on Saturday to stake his claim.
May 4, 2022 at 21:51 #1596940“the days of The Derby being run with the word “Firm” in the going description are long gone”
—————————–
Perhaps not in the official going description, but there’s been some Derbys that imo have actually been run on genuine good-firm whatever the “official” might say.
That said, looking at both Changingoftheguard’s action and breeding I don’t foresee any problems on good-firm. Indeed may improve on it.
Not sure the going at Chester today was as soft as the official description either.
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2022 at 21:58 #1596941Just as a postscript to today’s Chester Vase, New London and Shergar have one thing in common – both were 5/1 for The Derby on the morning of the Chester Vase.
The difference was Shergar had won the Classic Trial at Sandown Park by TEN lengths, whereas New London had won a novice contest by a couple of lengths.
Some ante-post quotes nowadays are a disgrace and punters should tread very carefully, especially where Maiden and Novice Stakes winners are concerned.
The form often doesn’t amount to much and there’s no supporting evidence on the clock either.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 5, 2022 at 00:01 #1596950The Chester Vase looked a weak race to me.
Maybe The Dante will be better.
