I have no idea if he will even be aimed at the race, but Goldspur should be better at three then two.
Dubawi, his sire, was third in The Derby and Pomology, his dam, won the Lancashire Oaks and was runner up in the Prix Vermeille (with Treve behind her) having never even run as a two-year-old.
Goldspur, has an OR of 107, so needs to improve 10lb to a stone to be a Derby colt, but it’s not impossible.
He won the Zetland Stakes on his second start and hopefully his trip to France on his final outing will have made a man of him.

March 29, 2022 at 11:26 #1590203Waterville this seasons santa Barbara?
Big talking horse burning up the gallops, will he back it up on the track?
Santa Barbara went off absolutely ridiculous prices in both the guineas and oaks and let’s be honest 18s is a very poor price for a Derby on a horse that’s unraced.

A bit different to Santa Barbara as he is due a couple of starts to warm up, whereas Santa Barbara went straight to the Guineas. As regards to the price being poor, he’ll win his maiden convincingly (if AOB is to believed) and he will then likely go single figures for this before he steps up for a Derby trial. Worth a pop with cash out.

Can’t breathe….literally can’t stop laughing….best line of the year so far.
I don’t believe a single, commercially-driven, word that comes out of that fella’s mouth ever.
I backed Serpentine at a big price and, quite apart from the fact I got lucky, at least it had some form when I placed my bet.

Sounds like they have forgotten about him already.
I expect Waterville has “such a great mind”.
March 29, 2022 at 15:04 #1590233There is a commercial imperative to declare “this is the best we’ve ever had” regularly, possibly annually even.
After all these years, I cannot believe there is anyone who still hangs on Aidan O’Brien’s words as if they were gospel and worth as much as actual form in the actual form book.
I have nothing against O’Brien personally, but he is a mouthpiece for a commercial organisation and literally everything he says is marketing.
All this fuss about these gallops after racing at The Curragh – no one outside Ballydoyle even knows what weights they carried.
Of course Tenebrism will stay a mile (her next race is at, err, a mile), of course Luxembourg was “always the one” and has the speed for a mile – they’ve realised they’ve got nothing that can get anywhere near Native Trail so they’re having a crack with him.

And Waterville will stay but no doubt has loads of pace too
March 29, 2022 at 16:38 #1590265“If he was dropped back in trip he could win a July Cup.”
I remember O’Brien saying that one about Galileo. Funnily enough, they never did.

March 29, 2022 at 16:47 #1590268They maintained that mogul was very fast for ages
But what he actually wanted was to be running over hurdles in an Albert bartlett
March 29, 2022 at 17:01 #1590269Mogul now standing as a NH stallion, I believe.
Well worth paying over $3 million for.

April 10, 2022 at 13:24 #1592776I don’t take a blind bit of notice of anything he says, but the racecourse debut of a horse with this pedigree is always of interest.
