September 30, 2018 at 22:23 #1376108Superb horse, and a great jumper of a fence. Of course there was that epic QMCC with Direct Route and Deep Sensation, but a close second for me was his KG, at the age of 12, and the sight of HK cheering him on from the rails. That was certainly one of those ‘yelling to wake the neighbours’ moments! Good to see he had a proper retirement, and longer than the years he graced the track.
September 30, 2018 at 22:28 #1376109Yes, he spent his long and happy retirement with former champion jockey Graham Thorner (who won the 1972 Aintree National on Well To Do) and his family. A fantastic jumper, whose King George and Peterborough Chase victories also showcased his turn of foot. A great credit to Henrietta Knight and Terry Biddlecombe’s training abilities, alongside Best Mate’s achievements. I doubt whether many trainers would have produced such spectacularly consistent results with those two animals, who were greatly loved. (His name translates as ‘Blue Eiderdown,’ by the way.
October 1, 2018 at 00:14 #1376115One of the greats.
Time to cross the Rainbow Bridge now and join Best Mate to run together again.
RIP Edredon BleuThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 1, 2018 at 10:31 #1376121One of the horses that grew my interest in racing after his KG win. People thought I had backed the horse after I was beaming at seeing the scenes after that win. I was just so happy for the horse and connections that day

RIP Edredon Bleu.
