Couldn’t find a thread on this so have started this one.

I was very impressed with Vadeni in the Prix Du Jockey Club (French Derby), but I also think (given the notoriously tap happy Andrew Cooper is Clerk Of The Course at Sandown Park) Bay Bridge’s prospects of getting an easier surface at the Esher venue than he did at Royal Ascot must be much enhanced.

Native Trail must be of interest, stepping up to a mile and a quarter for the first time.

Showers are forecast this week, so it may be prudent for Mr Cooper to refrain from turning on the taps just yet.

He doesn’t do “prudent,” Gladders – rumour has it one of his ancestors was Clerk Of The Course in the Old Testament – he took a pride in producing safe ground for Noah’s Ark.

Bits and pieces of a light shower are forecast, so nothing that will change the ground a great deal.

Vadeni looked like a rocket to me in the prix du jockey club

I’m very much looking forward to seeing him run again

I take it Tudhope will be on Real World and Kingscote on Bay Bridge?

I’d have thought it would be a mistake if AOB runs both High Definition and Stone Age as both their best form is when leading. Ryan will ride one but if both run…?

Will Frankie be on one of the three?

When I seen the line up, Native Trail is the obvious choice. The return to Sandown will suit him a lot better than the Curragh and Newmarket. Those extra two furlongs should play to his strengths much better than a mile.
My only slight concern would be the ground if it’s Gd/Fm.

Andrew Cooper, Clerk Of The Course at Epsom Downs and Sandown Park, is a man on a religious mission to rid the world of ground with the word “Firm” in the going description.

Saint Andrew has an ongoing passionate ménage a trois love affair with the artificial watering systems at Epsom and Sandown so rest assured there will be give in the ground.

It’s what he wants. If the ground went on the slow side of good before the Irish 2000 Guineas, the trainer said he’d have an excuse.

Must say the form book tells me that all Native Trail’s best form has been on quicker surfaces.

As I reckon it’s odds-on the circuit will get a good “Coopering” if it doesn’t rain, I don’t think Native Trail will get a quick surface on Saturday and he’s an Oasis Dream, trying 1m2f for the first time, who IMO made heavy weather of winning a sub-standard Irish 2,000 Guineas with give last time out.

“Must say the form book tells me that all Native Trail’s best form has been on quicker surfaces”

    How Chezza?

Native Trail has only once run once on ground officially firmer than good. Good-firm, in the Group 2 Superlative as a two year old. Short Head victory over Masekela.
Has only beaten Racing Post Standard once – if you want to call that good-firm – a 3 1/2 lengths victory in the Group 3 Craven over Claymore at level weights,

Ran once on going softer than good. Good-yielding in the Irish Guineas. 1 3/4 lengths victory over New Energy.

Every other run is on Good.

I’d have some doubts about Native Trail’s rounded action being as effective on genuine good-firm ground.
Although he has not yet run on softer than good-yielding and therefore is always a slight doubt about acting, I’d have less doubts about him acting on it than I would good-firm. That said, good-soft paces more emphasis on stamina. But his laziness also makes it more likely he’ll stay.

Native Trail will always look unimpressive against lesser opposition – as he did in the Irish 2000 last time out – because he’s become lazy. Ever since the Dewhurst has always needed to be asked for his effort.

Native Trail might have more to come when coming up against better opposition, but will have to if he’s to win this.

Only once on ground officially quicker than Good, but broke standard in the Craven and it was only 0.27 sec slow when he was beaten three parts of a length in the 2,000 Guineas.

His only run with official give resulted IMO in a very laboured Irish 2,000 Guineas win where for me he ran below previous levels as IMO it was a poor renewal (second, third and fourth all well beaten next time out).
