Thought I might have dug one out with

    Desert Sea

, but it appears Fist unearthed it earlier…

A 4lb pull with Overturn plus some improvement should see it get closer to Overturn than the 3 lengths defeat last time out, and he looks to have been laid out for this.

    Back on easier ground,

    Darley Sun

will get the strongly run two miles that it’s likely to be, and also comes good round about this time.

You Can’t whack a bit of Sun by the Sea!

I also like Desert Sea but the pace would need to be frenetic and theres not many candidates for that. Desert Sea is my second choice though.

I’ve gone for Henry Cecil’s horse Ajaan EW at a big price. He ran pretty well in a couple of big Handicaps last season (2nd Chester Cup, 5th Cesarewitch) so I thaught I’d take a chance on him running into a place at 28-1.

    VERDICT

The race of the day, the Totesport Ebor handicap which never fails to live up the excitement on the Knavesmire as both flat and jump trainers aim to bring home some of the £130,000 on offer. There looks to be a serious pace with horses such as Fortuni, Martyr, Overturn and Demolition being able to record fast times from the front which could play into the hands of those who are held up especially if they take each other on up front.

The ever dependable most consistent horse in training at the minute as to be

    OVERTURN

who has been on the go since May last year and he will make this a test of speed and stamina from the front which is going to rule out a large part of this field.
Jim Goldie could have an extremely good

chance today with his old boy

    NANTON

who could find the race falling into his lap which is how he loves it although he has been tried in group company of late due to the limited options and is 13lbs higher than running 4th in this last year but Paul Norton takes off a vital 7lbs that increases his chances.

    Recent Ascot winner

    BERNIE THE BOLT

is still on an upwards curve despite two disappointing runs in the Northumberland plate and Chester Cup, it was this time last year he came into his own by winning the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket and has excellent claims.

    The Irish raider

    ELYAADI

would appear to have a great each way shout for John Queally who came 2nd in the Ascot Stakes after an impressive win at Leopardstown prior to that, last year’s winning jockey Gary Carroll takes the ride.

    NANTON – 2PT EW @ 33/1
    BERNIE THE BOLT – 2PT EW @ 16/1
    ELYAADI – 1PT WIN @ 10/1

Was right about Demolition shortening! Didn’t factor in Tom Segal picking it though and reckon it could still shorten further on course…

I’d love to see Nanton and Hillview Boy fight this one out. I’ll bet both of them each way

Wrong, G; just got in gasping for a cup of tea! However, did have a glass of wine with my meal at the pub when we got back. Big disappointment is that my neighbour didn’t tape todays racing for me, but I’ve managed to watch the race on oddschecker. Thankfully topped up my bet on Dirar last night, but also topped up my bet on Bernie and couldn’t resist Elyaadi as well, so not much in the way of profit

. Lessons learnt for next year, though. Draw really is important along with backing a hold up horse [aged 5]. Where did all the money come from on Rosika?

Kieran said live on C4 before the race that she was the one to beat Moe! Well done with Dirar! :D
