Whispering GalleryI expect a couple of Melbourne Cup horses to emerge from this race – and I hope one of them is Theology.
July 15, 2010 at 14:43 #306648We’re going to it again this year, and greatly looking forward to it. Really pushed for time at the moment, and having to avoid looking at races, but this is one that I do intend to get stuck into. Only looked briefly at the runners so far, and don’t think I’ve seen a Barney Curley or Willie Mullins horse [drat]. Seem to remember fancying Dirar a bit last year, and his price will come in if he wins at Galway. A lot of the others are new to me, so I’ll be spending a lot of time on the ATR site in the next few weeks!
July 16, 2010 at 12:54 #306823It’s been drawn to my attention the NATURAL HIGH holds an Ebor entry (Thanks Gerald)
I believe Dermot Weld has another staying ace up his sleeve with this one, like all Rosewell stayers he’s been given plenty of time to mature and one day he may prove good enough to be mentioned in the same sentance as the likes of Profound Beauty, Vinnie Roe, Vintage Crop and Rite Of Passage.
With a decent ride in a farcically tactical race at Galway where he finished third he would have been unbeaten in four runs.
He was very impressive on his season debut then missed a recent engagement which looked a penalty kick, The Ebor looks the perfect stepping stone to Listed/Group races or one of the top Novice Hurdles at The Festival…..or both?July 20, 2010 at 20:42 #307627Last years Ebor saw a racing certainty beat, those of us with the gift of Foresight could see Aidan O Brien had laid Changingoftheguard out for it and snaffled all the 10/1! On the day of the race he was 15/8fav and was as unluckier loser as i can remember.A year in racing is no time at all and i would imagine knowing the patterns of the coolmore running plans i reckon they will target the race again and out of the 4 entries i like the look of
Snow Blizzard
and
Flying Cross
,funilly enough both these 3yo"s are bred to win a St Leger!
July 20, 2010 at 21:47 #307647Harris Tweed has got a St Leger entry; is he likely to run in the Ebor? When will we know the weights and is there an elimination stage soon? There seems to be money going on the horse that Cheltenhamspecialist mentioned, and the McCain horse may run as well. I’m trying not to back half the field like I did last year, so a bit of restraint is needed!
July 21, 2010 at 19:05 #307799Weights out today. Harris Tweed is going to be a borderline case as to whether he gets in or not. Beware with Flying Cross. He’s not eligible for the race.
July 21, 2010 at 19:20 #307803Oh rats; I mustn’t look at the weights..I’ve got a really busy week and if I start looking I won’t be able to prise myself away from the computer. I love this race, and I’m so looking forward to going again this year.
July 21, 2010 at 20:05 #307805Natural High is rated 90 (figure mentioned on the Melbourne Cup thread last week ), and the lowest runner last year was 91, so it will be interesting to see if they try to get a penalty to ensure a run.

Cheers David,i notice both my initial fancies have been withdrawn! Aidan still has 2 in though!
July 21, 2010 at 22:01 #307824I’m surprised Imposing wasn’t one of your initial fanices Gord!
July 21, 2010 at 22:25 #307826Just been looking at Desert Recluse. Probably won’t get a run but might have an ew at 50/1. He looks very tough.7st 8; won’t get a run [don’t understand, his 0R is 92 but horses with a lower OR have more weight].
July 22, 2010 at 00:04 #307842That’s because he’s a 3yo, Moe. They receive a weight allowance from the older horses.
The downside to this is that the 3yos find it difficult to get into the big h’caps like the Magnet Cup and the Ebor. Only one 3yo managed to get into the Magnet Cup this year, and it won.
July 22, 2010 at 12:02 #307887So that accounts for them having a poor record in the race [2/10]. I do like this horse, though, and am going to keep an eye on him. Very gutsy, although does seem to jink to the right at the end of his races. Back to the drawing board.
July 22, 2010 at 12:13 #307891Precision Break
Will run his race this time (watch him fly at Goodwood first time out )
July 22, 2010 at 16:32 #307942I like Martyr for this race at 20/1. Hannon could pick this race up like he has with 2 yo races this year.
July 22, 2010 at 17:42 #307950I was just going to say the same. He’s won over 2m, right age and I would imagine is guaranteed a run with 8.10. Not sure if he’s got the speed to win, but at 20/1 I’m going to have an ew on him. Also like the look of Deaville Flyer, who’s won over course and distance and sems a bit speedier. I’ve only got down as far as ‘K’ but skipped to Martyr because he looked interesting. Can’t ignore Elyaadi either, but she’s not much of a price.

He would be my idea of the winner if he gets into the race, should be unbeaten, check the replay of the only race he didn’t win ( Galway) , farcical pace, poor ride
