Died in his sleep this week at the grand old age of 35!
RIP Dudie, glad you had such a long and happy retirement.February 24, 2013 at 01:26 #430393Retired in 1990 and only ever run 14 times in a 3 year racing career.
What a lovely retirement his owner let him have and I hope he enjoyed every minute of his 35 years here with us.
RIP Dudie I you lived a full life and when the time came to depart you went peacefully. God Bless.xThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 24, 2013 at 06:42 #430396That won’t be the horses full career stats on the RP site as the database only goes back to 1988.
According to a post on Donald’s facebook page he ran 28 times in chases winning 10 and being placed on 8 further occasions.
Not sure if he raced on the flat or over hurdles prior to that.February 24, 2013 at 09:09 #430399Great to hear he had a decent retirement.
Came over from Ireland to run in the 85 National, and he and Tony Mullins blazed a trail before parting company at the 19th, the field having come back to them. He returned in 86, the first horse to run in the Halewood colours. He didn’t fare any better this time. He unseated Kevin Doolan at the 3rd, but was quickly remounted. A mile back, they approached Bechers, which everyone else had cleared……….and fell again! The original BBC footage only shows him falling in the background, as rest of field had made it to Foinavons! Using the Bechers Camera, he actually made a few end of years "funny" compilations, he didn’t deserve it!
Was great to see him actually run some big races off the back of that, and he seemed to be running at Cheltenham every Saturday when the camera were there, putting in some great perfoances in the big winter 2.4m handicaps!
