I expect a long-priced upset in this race and it may come from Russian Sage leading the field under a modest tempo. Cannot fault his effort last start under a penalty (Balius in front of him and Jay Peg DH for second), and if he is left alone I just don’t see Doctor Dino, Purple Moon, King Of Rome, Quijano with a big enough button to run him down.
Best-priced 16/1 takes my fancy.
March 28, 2009 at 16:09 #218857There will be a big priced winner in this (well, bigger than single figures anyhow).
There doesnt seem to be much pace and a hell of a lot of horse that like to come off the pace.
However, it’s Spanish Moon for me. SM had a terrible injury plagued 3yo campaign and has just started to come into his own. I really rated his Ascot run in May last year coming home infront of the likes of Young Mick, Lion Sands and Big Robert but to name a few.
He’ll be suited by the big field pace or no pace and 18/1 is a massive price for Sir Michael’s only runner at the carnival.
March 28, 2009 at 20:27 #218917Youmzain and Kirklees, both each way.
March 28, 2009 at 20:31 #218919Completley forgot Kirklees was running!
March 28, 2009 at 20:50 #218920It’s fair to say that Richard Hills covered himself in **** from head to toe aboard poor old Youmzain. Yes, I backed it. Yes, I’m angry.
March 28, 2009 at 20:51 #218921You might be as angry as I am gutted!
I thought Spanish Moon had got there
March 28, 2009 at 20:53 #218922R Hills on a hold up horse…..say no more.
March 28, 2009 at 20:59 #218923Now that was impressive by Eastern Anthem.
It’s almost heartbreaking to see Youmzain cross the line in fourth without challenging the winners.

But that’s a frequent story.
Horse has its quirks and needs plenty of luck in running.
Was it third and fifth in this same race on previous attempts?
Change the jockey – same resultMarch 28, 2009 at 21:26 #218932Now that was impressive by Eastern Anthem.

Change the jockey – same resultI don’t agree on this occasion. Change of jockey – same poor ride more like!
The sooner connections get someone like Kinane or simply another jockey with a consistent record of giving his mount the best chance of winning the better for this, the unluckiest horse in training.
March 28, 2009 at 22:23 #218947I thought it was a terrible ride . Last year Hughes and Channon tried to ride him a bit closer to the pace and he was in a perfect position and flattened out. The year before he had a dream run up the rail and ran really well .
This year he had a full Dubai prep . The opposition was weaker and the jockey rode a stinker off a slow pace . Ajtebi saw the risk and pulled his horse wide . Had Hills done the same he would have avoided the traffic problems tracked EA through and judging by the fact he made up four lengths in half a furlong he would probably have won .
Hughes lost the ride when the horse ran way below form . I wonder what Hills has to do to lose it ? He has ridden two stinkers on the horse.

Agree. Thankfully at least Hils poor ride didn`t actually cost the horse an Arc last year.
