November 7, 2008 at 00:57 #188446Looks an fascinating race on paper if the principles turn up. Should get some idea where the Irish novices stand in relation to the English horses if either Breedsbreeze or Kicks For Free run. Would also be interesting to see if Ruby will ride for Nicholls or whether he’ll stick with Cooldine.
November 7, 2008 at 06:19 #188511Shaping up to be a cracking renewal, with the likes of Tranquil Sea, Forpadydeplasterer and Aran Concerto. Wonder will Nicholls be tempted to allow Kicks For Free to take his chance?

No Cooldine or any Nicholls runners left in but it still looks to be shaping up very nicely. Aran Concerto looked like he might justify his huge reputation over fences with his chasing debut at Navan. Forpadydeplasterer put in a workmanlike display at Punchestown but he’ll improve for that run and the step up in trip will suit. Tranquil Sea looked very good at Cork but he did jump out to his right at a few. Trafford Lad has the benefit of two runs over fences but he tended to jump out to his left in the straight which wouldn’t help him around here.
Looks between those four but Tony Martin’s Northern Alliance will have his supporters and Rare Bob should improve for the step up in trip.
November 26, 2008 at 18:10 #192326Really nailing your colours to the mast there Imperial Call.
Aran Concerto is a major bounce candidate.
Tranquil Sea is my fancy, a proper horse who will love the trip. Pddythe P was dinstinctly unimpressive lto.
Northern Alliance would not win this if they gave him a mile headstart. Absolutely no chance.

You may be well named, Hubris, dismissing Tony M’s horse so lightly: He’s an excellent jumper and will love every yard of this 2 1/2m. As a horse capable of a mid 130s hurdles rating he’s no mug and he’s got every chance on Sunday.
November 26, 2008 at 18:56 #192345Been along time since Tranquil Sea beat Trafford Lad and the latter always looked more of a chasing type, be interesting to see who comes out on top this time….but I fancy Padydeplasterer to put up a much better performance than last time and he could be a decent price in this company

He has no chance Dec, not a prayer.
November 26, 2008 at 19:36 #192359I think its a race to watch for future reference to be honest Hubris. If I was to have a bet at the current prices I’d probably side with Trafford Lad at around 5/1.
The Tony Martin horse might not have the big reputation that some of the market principles have, but he’s done nothing wrong in his two chase wins and as Carvills states; he’s a good jumper and he’ll relish the conditions. I’d be very surprised if he was good enough to win this but it would not surprise me if he ran into a place.
November 26, 2008 at 19:45 #192360Im with Fists on this one, Forpaddydeplasterer at 6-1 looks decent and think he may come into his own with a step up in trip over fences. Its one thing not to bet a tony martin horse but its another to right them off completely as more than often enough that can lead to egg on ones face.
November 26, 2008 at 20:43 #192376Who’s Dec?
I’d be against Forpady on Sunday- he didn’t look lika a natural jumper to me at Punch, it was all a bit laboured and difficult looking. Several times he landed very steeply including at the last. As has been said Aran has to overcome the difficulty of a second run back, but he’s a much better jumper than Pady and will relish the ground- he’s the one to beat. If I was sure Northern was a runner 10-1 would look huge.
November 26, 2008 at 21:14 #192390I think Forpaddy will benefit for a step up in trip, he was a bit guessy at a few fences at Punchestown. I think the ground will be against Tranquil Sea, I don’t think Trafford Lad was impressive at all over his two starts over fences. I don’ think Aran Concerto is the horse Meade makes him out to be, 6-1 about Paddy is a good price IMO.

Whilst I don’t share your enthusiasm on Northern Alliance’s chaces, I think he is an intended runner as his owner has now sponsored the opening race on the card and is travelling over from the US.
November 26, 2008 at 21:35 #192402I don’t know if you were watching Tranquil Sea in the mirror, Imperial Call, but if he showed any bias at Cork it was to his right, IMHO. He too is an excellent jumper. I make 3/1 Tranquil and 8/1 Northern (sadly the 10s is gone ) the pick of the prices.
As for the ground being against Tranquil, he looked to handle heavy ground OK at Cork.
November 26, 2008 at 21:39 #192406Sorry Carvills, memory is a bit hazy!
Edited it now anywayNovember 26, 2008 at 21:40 #192407I thought Paddy would be the one this year but after seeing Tranquil Sea’s chase debut i’ll be backing him. 3/1 is a decent price.
November 26, 2008 at 23:55 #192452Tranquil sea for me in this race over 21/2m if it had been 3m on soft ground i would be with "Aran" and if it was 2m on soft ground it would be "pady" so there you have it! Northern Alliance against this lot, i dont think so!
