Just finished watching todays racing back on video – spoilt by two things.
I am not sure if racecourses are penalised over start times but Yarmouth would have been a prime candidate today with races generally going off between 7 and 8 minutes late. One race maybe but the whole card? I could see no obvious excuse for them not catching up.
Secondly, the camera work at Fairyhouse was nothing short of a disgrace. It does nobody any favours just to close in to a ridiculous extent on the leading horse. On more than one occasion the apparant clear leader after the last was headed close home.
October 23, 2007 at 21:33 #121110I totally agree Stilvi.
Yarmouth was delayed by 7 or 8 minutes on the 2nd race, and therefore had enough time to catch up during the course of the afternoon, but as you rightly say, they made no effort.
I felt so sorry for ATR, who covered all 4 meetings today. Effectively, because of the delay at Yarmouth, they had 3 meetins going off within 5 minutes of each other, eg, 3:05, 3:07 & 3:10.
There are a lot of tracks in the UK that never make an effort to make up lost time once they get behind – and amazingly, there are some tracks, Newmarket being one, that when they are not on Channel 4, often go off late without even having an excuse for a delay.

The camera work was little better at the Curragh on Sunday, with the leader(s) frequently dropping off the left hand side of the screen for several seconds at a time.
I did notice that the running rails had been moved out a couple of metres or so, and wondered if the camera positions (assuming they are fixed rostrum cameras or similar there) hadn’t been re-calibrated to reflect that.
