Some of our old pals going to new homes today including one I have a soft spot for, the ex Closutton American Tom. Same stable also sent Townshend who ran well in the Kerry National.
Gigginstown getting rid of the old (and some not so old) to make way for the new. Glad to see Caltex was fit to go through the ring after his fall at Listowel. Think he might have plenty to offer and also Crezic, even if they aren’t going to be grade 1 winners.

Hope they are all lucky for their new owners.

An old favourite of mine Road To Riches is an interesting recruit for David Christie- very good ptp handler in N.Ireland.

He is very good at getting a horse back on track and it’ll be very interesting to watch his progress. Ever since he had the kissing spine (i think it was that) he hasn’t been the same horse. They have raced him a lot and nevertheless in typical giggy style and somewhat run him into the ground.

The horse might be fed up with the game but hopefully he can’t be brought back in hunter chases perhaps- trainer quoted as going the Cross Country route.

The likes of Townshend and American Tom have totally gone sour, and they too could improve for new yards, however, its worth noting how previous Mullins horses do when moving on……Not so well.

There was strong word about for Whoshotthesheriff for his debut bumper and he really hasn’t shown as much as i think they thought of….interesting Mouse O’Ryan buys him for 40k…who is tied in with Elliot…i presume he stays in the yard, but they obviously want to keep him.

I thought Townshend was going OK. Agree American Tom just looks miserable and jumping unhappily since his bad fall, whether mental or physical I don’t know, but I would be surprised if he bounces back. If he doesn’t I hope he is allowed to go and be a happy hacker or something rather than bashing around low grade races if he is hating it.

Wounded Warrior is an interesting one. I wonder what he will do.

Lord Scoundrel the one for me, on a really nice mark, and I’ll be following him closely with Graham McPherson.

I thought Kamil was quite promising at Limerick and on chasing debut at Ballinrobe so I was surprised to see him sold to Henry Hogarth for 17,000. He’s still only 5 and he’ll face easier opposition in the Northern racing circuit than in Ireland.

Port Melon is one my old favourites who I was fairly keen on for the Neptune in 2014. Unfortunately, he was withdrawn after unseating Daryl Jacob before the start. He’s also gone for 17,000 to Highflyer Bloodstock. I assume, he will do something involving point-to-pointing or hunter chases like last season.

Boffo has a strange profile having ran to a surprisingly high RPR of 72 for a Prescott debutant. He bombed out on 2 subsequent occasions (surprise, surprise!). Presumably, Prescott’s efforts to obtain a very favourable mark were in vain but he could have still have far more ability than his last 2 runs suggest. He was sold for 12,000 and has many relatives who have run to a decent level such as Cassydora and Yorkidding.

Lastly, Mokaatil looks a bargain at 18,000 for Ian Williams. Whilst he hasn’t entirely trained on he’s probably not much worse than his mark of 96 based on his Sandown listed 5th. 3rd in last year’s Cornwallis Stakes he must have some Class 2 sprint handicaps in him.
