It was all the polls that got me thinking of this. Who didn’t come through as you thought they would at various stages throughout the year?
It’s rather harsh to describe a dual classic winning filly as a disappointment but for me Finsceal Beo was, at Newmarket she looked head and shoulders the best of her generation but the end of the season, she’s been well and truly eclipsed by Darjina arguably and hardly stands out even with the likes of Indian Ink and possibly even Majestic Roi having similar form
I’ll also add Adagio to the list. I’m sure I wasn’t alone being suckered in by that Craven run and he’s run pretty poorly since, now plying his trade in the states where he has been winless on 2 starts for different yards.
December 5, 2007 at 19:20 #128990I was disappointed that we only saw Sakhee’s Secret win once in Group 1 company. I was convinced he was potentially much better than the likes of Red Clubs and Soldiers Tale, yet he didn’t conclusively prove it last season. Let’s hope he can show what he is made of next year. The other sprinter that I thought might be significantly better than he was able to show was Per Incanto. What can this horse do over 5f on fast ground – I really need to know!
Over the jumps the obvious one is Black Jack Ketchum. It is quite possible his form never entitled him to the hype he received last season. There is still a nagging feeling I have though that he really was that good and that his trainer really is that bad…
December 5, 2007 at 19:41 #128996Teofilo for me,Iwould have liked to know how good he was or wasn’t.
If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.
December 5, 2007 at 19:43 #128998Authorized. I know he went on to win the Juddmonte but I was really hoping we’d found a three year old legend.
His defeat in the Eclipse really flattened the flat season for me and it never really recovered.

December 6, 2007 at 10:38 #129093The flooding of Southwell, Worcester and for a while also Stratford, and the hole that blew in the summer jumping programme, rated a big disappointment for me.
In addition, I didn’t much care for the BHA’s change of policy that ensured that hunters’ chases would automatically always be the first race on a card to suffer balloting out, even in those instances where less valuable / prestigious races (including, but not limited to, selling hurdles), featured elsewhere on it.

December 6, 2007 at 10:46 #129095Teofilo was a big disapointment but nothing compared to George Washington. So excited about the horse coming back, always looked decent but never quite hit the heights. And then came Monmouth….
December 6, 2007 at 11:11 #129099For me it was Manduro – he looked to be a future star in the making.
Sadly we shall never know.
December 6, 2007 at 11:29 #129103Disapointment for me was the wholesale retiring of 3YO colts for stud duties both in Europe and America before they’ve really had chance to prove their quality and durability over a sustained period of time.

December 6, 2007 at 11:58 #129107That just goes without saying at the end of every flat season. Ridiculous in my opinion.
December 6, 2007 at 12:17 #129114There are more horses kept in training as older horses….more than ever before.
Peeping Fawn, Soldier Of Fortune, Septimus, Duke Of Marmalade, Rags To Riches, Passage Of Time, Sakhee’s Secret, etc all staying in training next year and this year we had the likes of older horses such as Dylan Thomas, Ramonti, Manduro etc keep us entertained.
December 6, 2007 at 12:20 #129116The demise of Detroit City. Thought he was going to be a superstar.
December 6, 2007 at 12:22 #129118"…………more than ever before. ………….."
Are you absolutely positively certain about that, Aidan?
