5/2 Persica
Was never going to get anywhere in the lockinge over a mile on fast going
has a course win here, slightly up in distance, down in grade and the going more in his favourCharles Darwin to conquer the World
June 7, 2025 at 11:09 #1732298imo Persica is short. Can excuse the Lockinge on much firmer ground. Soft and Moore both positives. However, although the Earl Of Sefton looked good, it’s possible none of the other four runners ran to form… And without upping his ability for that run Persica’s form seems well established – doubt he’ll improve. Two or three of these have better form – if showing it – and there’s one (three year old) who could show improvement.
Docklands ran the horse I have backed for the Queen Anne – Sardinian Warrior – by half a length last time out at Ascot. SW going on to push Arc favourite Sosie close in France. I don’t think Persica would’ve got anywhere near Sardinian Warrior. There is a bit of a question mark about whether Docklands is at his very best only at Ascot. Only beaten 2 1/4 lengths by Charyn in last year’s Queen Anne. But has run well in defeat in France and Australia. Most of his form is on firmer, but has run up to his then best on soft.
Ice Max loves a bog. If running to his best is a massive danger. Trouble is more often than not ruins his chance by pulling too hard… And he’s a front runner! Cairo, Brave Emperor and the German Horse Geography and Persica all like to be up there. EDIT Cairo has come out. So much pace could be a negative for Persica as front running seemed to suit him so well at Newmarket. Although yesterday’s racing seemed to favour those ridden prominently and he has won by being mid-div before.
Even Royal Playwright likes to be ridden somewhere near the pace. 9th of 11 in the Dante last time out I can forgive because he was dropped out last. He’s the best looking horse to come out of Arabian Queen and her progeny tend to improve with age. Good second to Wimbledon Hawkeye in the Royal Lodge on a softish surface and has a slightly rounded action, so should act on today’s ground unless it’s bottomless. Andrew Balding is in cracking form too.
Royal Dubai could be interesting back with Marco Botti. Ran a close third in this last year. However, hasn’t shown that form since last summer and there was a break between August and December. It put me off a bit, but the fact there’s been money for him is a plus and being held up in this race could be another.
Geography would need to step up on his German and Italian form and not sure how he’d cope if involved in a pace battle.
Globetrotting Brave Emperor acts well on soft and has been brilliantly placed in the past to pick up some valuable prizes. But seems to have lost his form and wouldn’t quite look good enough even at the top of his game.
Tyrrhenian Sea has some good form, but it’s on the all weather.
I’ve backed Docklands and Royal Playwright with savers on Ice Max and Royal Dubai.

The more I know the less I understand.
June 7, 2025 at 13:19 #1732373Ice Max, also RTB, at 10/1 (BOG).
Was waiting for the fiver to be credited after losing bet in today’s 1st.
June 7, 2025 at 13:23 #1732375Must say, am getting a bit concerned Epsom ground conditions are favouring prominent runners. Hardly anything has won at this meeting when waited with.

Change the jockeys around and the third would have won. Kingscote should have gone to the outside and didn’t… And should have had the whip already in his left hand on that camber and didn’t… Docklands wandered in behind the winner and the race was all over.Value Is EverythingJune 7, 2025 at 13:51 #1732384Thanks Wilts
I was a little worried when he got held up but made his move at the right time to get first run on Docklands
