I backed Moviesta in the 6f sprint at Newmarket (3.15 race) on Friday and wondered if anyone else saw the race?
I was always happy he was travelling well and I am convinced that Paul Mulrennan seemed to steady him as he was coming to make his challenge, as if he didn’t want to get in front too soon. In the end he came through but it looked to me that Ryan Moore had timed his challenge better on Heaven’s Guest and he got up by a head.
I haven’t been able to see a replay and wondered if I was just seeing things regarding the tactics on Moviesta.
I think he’s a horse to keep an eye on anyway.
Thanks
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 14, 2013 at 22:04 #445697Yes, I saw the race and my initial reaction was that the handicapper may just have caught up with him for now. I wouldn’t have him as a horse to follow as Friday’s result won’t see him on any lower OR!
July 15, 2013 at 00:11 #445699Steve I was at Newmarket on Friday and Moviesta was also one of my short listed horses that I backed on the day.
He looked a picture in the paddock and went to post very well. Heaven’s Guest also caught the eye in the paddock (by Dark Angel a sire that is doing very well at the moment).
As the race panned out Moviesta looked to be racing very keenly in the early stages and took time to settle before making his challenge halfway through the race and taking the lead, firstly being in the middle of the course then wandering over to the stands side. Meanwhile Ryan Moore on Heaven’s Guest had kept his place on the far side of the course, the horse was settled throughout the entire race and did not expend any extra energy, and Ryan Moore had his head down all the time keeping him down to business, and running on well at the finish to take the lead from Moveista right on the line.
With the 3lb pull in the weights with Heaven’s Guest from their last run at York and the fact that he raced keenly in the early stages on a very hot day, that was enough to see him beaten.
Ryan Moore definitely committed Heaven’s Guest before Moviesta was given any reminders, that could have also contributed to his defeat.
I would keep him on your short list Steve, Newmarket is a very unforgiving course with it’s tough uphill finish and he did extremely well to finish as close to Heaven’s Guest as he did under the circumstances. Not a bad idea to add Heaven’s Guest to that list he is a much cooler character in his races and knuckles down to the job well, we were both unlucky that he turned out on Friday but it made for great racing.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 15, 2013 at 12:38 #445722I think if Moviesta had been tracking through Heavens Guest he would have won. I think he’s a horse who needs a solid gallop and a lead to deep inside the final furlong…and unfortunately the pace collapsed as they were in the dip and he had to commit as Heavens Guest came on the opposite side of the 3rd Rene Mathis. Dont give up hope yet, there is a big sprint in Moviesta.

I was thinking about Moviesta’s chances in the Stewards Cup, where he is a 16/1 shot, and I was drawn to him for several reasons. He seems to be improving and looks consistent, it also looks like he can cope in big field conditions.
He may not be that well handicapped but I am hoping that the right pace and being produced at the right time might be the bigger factor in how he will perform.
I checked his entries and don’t see the Stewards Cup on there but I notice he is entered in The Nunthorpe, which is obviously highly ambitious but might indicate that he is held in some regard.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 15, 2013 at 21:13 #445766I too had been hoping the Stewards Cup might be on his hitlist as coming through late there can be possible. Other options I’d imagine are the Ayr Gold Cup. That’s September though. And if he happens to appear before then in other big sprints (such as a handicap at the York Ebor meeting) and he was to win…I’d wonder if they’d considering going for a group race like the Haydock Sprint Cup…I really think a fast fast pace with a good lead into the race would suit the horse…although maybe a Group 1 would be a shade too much for him.
August 1, 2013 at 11:23 #447196Connections have decided to go for Friday’s King George stakes rather than the Stewards Cup. I think that is a bit ambitious and means he is dropping back to five furlongs as well. They cite the draw factor as part of their reasoning but there will be eighteen runners in his preferred race and he’s drawn 5 with the blurb on the race-card claiming high is better. I’ll probably stick with my old pal from last week, Tropics, in the Stewards Cup now and pick another at bigger odds to go with him.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 2, 2013 at 01:01 #447303Get on Moviesta for the King George Steve.
Travels so well at 6f to suggest worth a bet at around 9/1 to see if 5f is OK.The Draw at Goodwood’s Festival meeting is a funny one. I’ve also backed Swiss Spirit drawn high (17) and Glas Office (10) and Ladies Are Forever (8), so hedging my bets. But (imo) a high draw is only best on the first two days of the Festival meeting.
After they take the false rail down on the far side, a low draw is little (if any) disadvantage. Middle is also just as good if not better than stand side once it’s been raced on for a couple of days. First two in the Richmond came up the centre, with stand side horses nowhere. Suspect it will be more to do with where the "best" pace is.
There’s pace (imo) from draws 1, 3, 4, 8?, 12?, 13 and 15. With the more fancied pace horses drawn 1 Tickled Pink and Masamah in 4. So Moviesta in 5 should be towed in to the race quite nicely. Bungleinthejungle in 15 might be able to get the stands side rail, like he did in the Molecombe last year. But is he good enough? I think not.
Value Is EverythingAugust 2, 2013 at 10:48 #447342I’ll be backing him Ginger but I felt he had a really good chance in the Stewards Cup. However, having picked him out, it would be folly not to stick a few quid on. Masamah is the other one I like because of his record in the race and he looks a decent each-way shot at 12/1.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 2, 2013 at 16:06 #447366Moviesta won quite impressively and the trainer seems bullish that there is more to come from him. Plenty money for him today as well and interesting to see where he goes next.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 2, 2013 at 16:16 #447368Wish I’d taken note of your advice Steve. The horse hosed up!
Great evaluation as ever, well done.

Top stuff Ginge! Unfortunately I couldn’t see past the Lady Cecil horse.

Thanks Hammy, another one added to my Stewards Enquiry collection as well!

Must have your own klaxon by now…
August 4, 2013 at 13:54 #447637Will be having an ante post tickle on him for The Nunthorpe.
August 7, 2013 at 11:20 #447735He is 8/1 for the Nunthorpe now and has to be worth a go at that price given the lack of real strength in depth in the sprinting division. He is surely open to further improvement, particularly as he seemed better for dropping to five furlongs.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 7, 2013 at 21:56 #447803Some quality posts here, lads, congrats.
I thought he won in the style of a horse with a fair bit more to come and I’ll be on the Nunthorpe bandwagon . . . if there’s any room!
