September 28, 2008 at 15:58 #182655My own value picks are:
Edge Closer, Prime Defender and Kings Apostle.
But my value system has told me to back Diabolical and Elletelle.
So I can claim a big priced winner if any of the five win!

Value Is EverythingSeptember 27, 2009 at 13:22 #250358Looks as if last seasons Diadem is as unpopular as this years. I had a small e/w on Asset at 12/1. Hopefully it can reverse it’s last run at Ascot at the weights.

September 27, 2009 at 13:43 #250365I’ve taken the 12’s about Mariol – tempted to back him earlier in the week but at least now I know he’s in the country and at the track

Can see this turning into a test of stamina and he’s won at 6.5f and seems to be getting better with age. Knot In Wood’s not out of it either
September 27, 2009 at 14:22 #250369Mariol holds my selection on the Maurice De Gheest form. I’m just hoping that Asset likes the distance and track as much as he did the last time he ran out at Ascot.
I backed a horse called Verenar that day, andf it ran very well into 4th. The next time it ran it got beat by a nick to Proviso. It headed to the sales recently, so i wonder who bought it.

September 27, 2009 at 15:06 #250380If Tenbob was on the booze yesterday, he’d have saw this thread and thought "when the F did i make this thread" ?
September 27, 2009 at 15:20 #250383Was going to back Mariol then seen his draw and he has the 2nd worst draw, then went for Art Connoisseur but he has a 6lbs penalty but the way he won the Jubilee may persuade me and also drawn 15 which is a good draw.

I was clicking on the names above trying to get the form pages to open up
Only took me about 6 tries before I realised why they weren’t working
High Standing leaps out in this race but they rarely work out as expected, I don’t know if Ryan Moore or Keiren Fallon who was down to ride Strike the Deal had first choice in the race but I would probably have sided with him had he ran.
While High Standing now looks difficult to pose the horse I am having a few quid ew on is Knot on Wood. He carried a huge weight in the Ayr Gold Cup and I gave him absolutely no chance. It’s one of the toughest races on the calendar to win and damn near impossible to win it off top weight, so that has to be considered a top class effort and he deserves his place in this.
It’s not like it was his first time as he was giving Genki and Odds and Evens a massive 10lbs and and 8lbs when he ran exactly the same way in the Stewards Cup.
9st will seem like a featherweight to him and if he gets into a challegeing position in the final furlong like he very often does he’ll go very close IMO.
Richard Fahey has kept his string in great nick all season and with Paul Hagan replacing apprentice Barry McHugh they might just pull it off.
Knot on Wood 14/1 ew at 1/4 the odds looks a fair bet to me.
September 27, 2009 at 16:03 #250387I’m backing Art Connoisseur (single) to pull it off at his lucky track

Mind you, I do think Dream Eater will run a solid race (seems suited to 6 furlongs IMO) and I’ll drop him in a Lucky 15.
September 27, 2009 at 18:02 #250403Asset has his ideal conditions today and is vastly better off at the weights on his Royal Ascot running with High Standing, who shouldn’t be too far away, either.
Godolphin are bang in form and Asset’s form figures at Ascot read 232.
If he’s ever going to crack it at Group level, today is the day.
Palace Moon is also one to consider, but Asset looks good ew value at around 10/1.
September 27, 2009 at 18:30 #250404Richard Hills has his critics, but the guy is showing his class.
Couldn’t have Sayif today, but well done to anyone who had a few quid on. Asset was cruising two out, but found very little.
Nice effort from Tamagin who had nothing to race with.
September 27, 2009 at 18:35 #250405Buick and Ahern clearly made a bad call to go to the leading group and should have raced with Tamagin. Thought the sprint yesterday would have showed that. Think Donohue just used his brain there and it got him a very good second.
