Fairly easy win for Dawn Approach and on a line through George Vancouver that makes him superior to Reckless Abandon.
Interesting he stays with Bolger as a 3yo which can only be a good thing and with only the Racing Post to come he looks a worthy favourite for the 2,000.
The Ferryman’s run didn’t enhance the reputation of Mars who is ahead of Reckless Abandon in the 2,000 ante-post market which seems rather unwarranted.
Ran no sort of race but Mars looks bit special to me as does Telescope.
I was far from impressed by Dawn Approach he took way to long to react considering the second looked like a one paced staying type.
The aforementioned may not run in the Guineas and opposition may appear to be thin on the ground but there could easily be a Sea the Stars out there or a Makfi that will turn this horse over. I wouldn’t dream of backing him as I’m sure hell be gunned down by something….not a guineas horse in my eyes.
October 14, 2012 at 19:53 #416743I think Bolger played a blinder here with this one!
Looking at Dawn Approach he’s quite a late foal April 23rd,I dont think there’s ever been a guineas winner born later than 1st April and that was Zafonic.
What quite remarkable is that he was forward enough and fast enough to run and win a maiden in March. Now Bolgers no fool and you cant help wondering if he thought that this horse was going to carry on and improve as a 3yr would he of run him that early??
I have my doubts he’s going to improve that much over the next 7 months.

Way too long to react against a 6 furlong Group winner with a rail to run up. How fortunate there was enough time to win by nearly 3 lengths.
Well, The Ferryman never looked likely to ‘kick him into touch’ and you now sound like someone who has missed the price and consequently are just trying (almost desperately) to convince yourself that the horse is going to get beat. Personally, I quite like fact he isn’t a bridle merchant and given an extra furlong I suspect he would have won yesterday’s race by 5-6 lengths. Yes, something could come out of leftfield – you could make that comment every year – but right now Dawn Approach is clearly the one to beat. I am not one of them but good luck to anyone who took the chance and got on early.
October 14, 2012 at 20:54 #416754I’ve backed him for the Guineas at a decent price so there’s no agenda here.
My only concern is the amount of racing he’s had as a two year old. Years ago trainers like Bill O,Gorman would run up winning sequences with two year olds and seemingly run them into the ground. I cant recall too many of them coming out and being world beaters as three year olds. Okay, we’re not talking those excesses with DA, and I’ve got no scientific basis to think so, but I wonder if this horse has been worked too hard as a juvenile?
You cant knock what the horse has achieved either but he does seem rather dour and workmanlike in winning.
Hopefully though he’ll prove to be an even better three year old and romp home in the Guineas.

It’s pure guesswork with Mars. The current form isn’t worth as much as a Jim’ll Fix It badge on eBay right now. 20 Runs from the race he won have resulted in one winner, two placed and SEVENTEEN unplaced. Dawn Approach would eat him alive right now and I can’t see Mars closing the gap in time for the Guineas, even if, as might be expected, Dawn Approach has less scope for improvement given a busy season, compared to the later developers who have kept their powder dry this season. It is not hard to envisage Dawn Approach winning his prep race, several bubbles bursting and him going off odds on for the big one. Cecil doesn’t seem to have anything, Gosden’s main contenders all seem to have met at least one defeat and outside of Mars O’Brien has nothing that would cause Jim Bolger sleepless nights. Telescope won’t have the pace to trouble Dawn Approach and I reckon the other Jim will fix it for the favourite to see off the doubters.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

That is "Line of the Year" for me!!!!
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Telescope on pedigree is surely a Derby type, I’ll be surprised if he turns up at Newmarket as I will be if Mars does who may well turn out to be special but there is nothing to say he or Telescope are to date though the latter I think is entered in the Racing post.
October 15, 2012 at 13:58 #416819How about Wentworth,an Acclamation colt owned by Coolmore and trained by Ricard Hannon.Incidentally Dawn Approach shows the same stubbern racing style as Real Approach and Teofilo they all only race when asked to.

Don’t talk shyte!! then again why change the habits of a lifetime?
I backed Dawn Approach for a considerable sum when he won his second race at Nass and while he won he did nothing for me except win me a few bob.
I have never liked the horse to the extent I’d back him to win a classicI think he’s over rated and wouldn’t back him for the Guineas with your money.
The only thing I am trying to convince myself of is that your a dick and I’m having great success.
What was the scathing post you made in the Arc thread again you made again when I suggested taking long odds about Orfeve?
Basically you watched a few videos and took a guess. When your bluster has died down perhaps you can explain why he should be a shorter price than a five length Arc winner? Personally, I thought Shareta was the most impressive trial winner.
You’re some judge Stilvi keep it up

Stilvi your new Zarkava, HGM? Must admit that seems unnecessarily abusive.
October 16, 2012 at 19:11 #416972Two for the note book for next years classics are in my opinion Wentworth and Olympic Glory.

God forbid!!!! Stilvi has been round since the day I joined and is one of the lads. He just has the odd moments when he bites your ankles to let you know he’s still around but nothing serious enough to be comparing him to that clown and starting WWIII.
Bit a banter hopefully that’s all so you can relax Boz
