Just for Info for anyone who might be interested . Der Spieler has been retired to a farm in Derby and is with good friends of mine. A great sigh of relief, it’s not easy to get a good home for ex racehorses, but he has got a brilliant one.
November 28, 2012 at 16:13 #421093Good news Dallimann, he’s still a relatively young horse, had he problems or just enough of racing?
November 28, 2012 at 16:44 #421094Hi Eddie, He has severe wind problems, been operated on, not so successfully and I just wanted to get him out in one piece. Thanks.
November 28, 2012 at 17:21 #421095Well done Dallimann.
Nice to hear a happy ending to his career.
I hope he enjoys his retirement.
Thanks for the update.November 28, 2012 at 18:48 #421109Great update and excellent news. Hope he has a nice and long retirement.
November 28, 2012 at 20:40 #421118Great to hear he’s retired in good shape. I’d noticed his absence and was thinking the worst. Well done on finding him a good place; hope you get another one as good, but with a bit more luck
November 28, 2012 at 21:19 #421120Is that Derby in England? Cause, if it is I could go and give him a polo! Either way, I’m glad he’s got a good retirement home and good on you for looking after him so well. I get updates on Desert Sea’s retraining; it’s lovely to hear of these ‘life after racing’ stories.
November 28, 2012 at 21:54 #421122Yes, it’s in England…. he’s gone from Germany – Ireland – England… I’ll never be a "big" owner, but will always make sure mine get a good home with guarantee that I’ll always take them back, regardless. Responsibility is first and foremost on my list, and "Spiels" gave us a lot of fun…if he’d been healthy, maybe the sky could have been the limit…just glad he’s safe, sound and happy
I’m too soft for this game…

This is by far and away the best post I’ve ever read on this forum. If all owners had your attitude, the sport would be incalculably more savoury. Whilst you might say you’re too soft for the game, I would say that you hold decent values and it is the game that is too harsh.
So yeah, much kudos to you and lange leben Der Spieler!
November 28, 2012 at 22:42 #421133Hope he’s not too close to the River Trent at the moment, then! Even worse, he could be close to the kingdom of the Ante Post King…..
