Never mind what Denman has or hasn’t beaten he was an absolute pleasure to watch on course today and the crowd loved and appreciated the pure class they were watching.
He is one of the most beautiful movers I have seen who absolutely swallows up the ground with huge stride.
I am a self confessed Kauto Star fan but I can’t wait to see what happens when the two are pitted against each other.February 9, 2008 at 16:23 #141656Why on earth would I lay anyone Denman at 5/2 when I can lay him at 1/5 on Betfair.
Exactly,
Those people saying "I’ll have £x on Denman at 5/2", what were you thinking?
It’s one of the most morinic things that I see on racing forums when someone puts up their own tissue.
Agreed Steve, point being that when someone submits a backing tissue i.e what the compiler thinks are the correct odds and at/above which would command a bet, too many mistakenly interpret it as a laying tissue as well. They are of course two entirely separate entities e.g 90% (over-broke) to back, 120% (over-round) to lay.
Zoso’s odds may have been esoteric and his reasoning strange (imo) and overly cock-sure, but I’ll give him credit for submitting it. Doesn’t warrant attempts at humiliation.
February 9, 2008 at 16:26 #141657Come on Drone – you could have thrown a bucket of numbers up in the air and have come up with a more plausible tissue.
February 9, 2008 at 16:28 #141658its not the tissue part….its the cock-sure part
February 9, 2008 at 16:36 #141661Jesus christ, ‘what did he beat?’ ‘What did he beat?’
What the hell could he beat???
He’s stuffed Regal Heights by 20 lengths, giving away 6lbs. Regal Heights is rated 140. Add 20. 160. Add 6 to make up for the 6lbs. 166. Factor in 5lbs of improvement for Regal Heights. 166 + 5 is 171.
Not to mention he’s absolutely cantered round and eased right down at the end. He could have won this by 4 furlongs and people would still ask that same stupid question; ‘What did he beat?’
Allow me to explain.
He beat a horse, Regal Heights, who has never won beyond 2m 5f. The horse was entering unknown territory over three miles and, due to the lack of confidence surrounding his ability to stay the distance, was going to be well held-up and ridden only for second place – Kauto Star couldn’t give that much ground away to Denman.
Regal Heights is a decent sort but, sadly, not top class. He’s been well beaten in all but one of his attempts at graded company and has had his limitations exposed before at a lower level than today’s race.
February 9, 2008 at 16:39 #141663Zoso had balls to comment and give his thoughts before race and that gets thumbs up from me
Give him a break guys imo, we all feck up

Agree Charlie.
I wouldn’t even say he fecked up. He made a selection and got it wrong, we all do that every day of the week.
The thing is, when you oppose a horse as low at 1/7 and go for a 14/1 shot or whatever it was (at the time of his post) it’s easy for us to come on with reasons why he could be wrong.
I gave my reasons why I thought Celestial Gold couldn’t win, other people give their opinions as to why the other two rags couldn’t win, and there were many people who offered their opinion as to why Denman would win – it just so happened that the maority of contributors were right this time.
Full credit to Zoso for answering everyone’s posts before the race and like others, I hope he hasn’t been hit too hard. Tomorrow is a different day.

February 9, 2008 at 17:20 #141674Fair play, Zoso. We’ve all made dubious predictions on this forum and, on occasions, been made to look like plonkers.
Welcome to the club!!
February 9, 2008 at 18:27 #141690Credit to you for putting your cards on the table Zoso, and I agreed that on raw form 1/6 wasn’t value, but ‘Dirty Den’ made you look a real fool today!
Before today’s race I was still convinced Denman was a bit short for the GC as he was yet to physically post numbers which would compete with ED & KS at their best. Now I’m quite satisfied on that front and really am praying that the big 4 all make it to Cheltenham and doubtlessly produce the finest Gold Cup since god knows when!
February 9, 2008 at 18:40 #141696What a laughable Betfair-forum thread from start to finish.
Denman wins the Hennessy off top perch in SCINTILLATING STYLE and then wins a Grade 1 in Ireland against some seasoned Grade 1 horses….and so we get some half-witted attention-seeker trying to make a case for a horse having his first run over fences since April 06; and no form at the top level anyway, and two other horses who don’t deserve to share a track with Denman.
Taxi for Zoso and the other barmpots who followed him off the bridge.
February 9, 2008 at 18:43 #141697Spot on, BSB.
February 9, 2008 at 18:45 #141698I thought this thread was a joke started by a troll? Am I wrong then?
February 9, 2008 at 18:55 #141702Mordin must have been spreading his sensationalist seed and TRF just happens to have been the unfortunate victim of his frivolity…

Thats a bit unfair everyone is entitled to their view. Its easy to say those things after the event.
Yep Zoso took a view – it was hopelessly wrong as most of us expected it would be but one of these days someone will take a similar view and will be proved right.
I await similar responses then.
February 9, 2008 at 19:15 #141709someone will take a similar view and will be proved right
Only if you think that the one-off result of a horserace "proves" such a thing. I don’t.
February 9, 2008 at 19:17 #141711In fairness, it was pointed out that Zoso was talking boll***s well in advance of the race.
February 9, 2008 at 19:48 #141716Be afraid Kauto Star and Fist of Fury, be very afraid.

Never mate

You dont win 8 races on the trot without being a very good horse which Denman is but todays performance was no more than a schooling excercise. Kauto would have to give Regal Heights 30lbs in a handicap and would still beat him IMO….that’s the stuff Arkle’s are made off
There were no Exotic Dancer’s (again) it proved nothing. There is only one difference I can see bewteen the two. They both jump well they both have a high cruising speed but Kauto is the horse that can quicken like no other chaser I have ever seen. He does it time after time and nothing about Denman tells me he will be able to contain him when Ruby says go. He will win by about 12 lengths on Gold Cup day and big Denman will hit the Cheltenham hill and go bouncy bouncy like zebidee with a stuck spring

Give you 5 lengths of a start for 2 quid
