The three of them are fantastic staying chasers. We are living in a golden era make no mistake about that, I intend to enjoy every minute of it.
Agreed mate and assuming they all make it to Cheltenham in March then we’re in for one hell of a Gold Cup.
December 1, 2007 at 21:19 #128285Hopefully Denman, Kauto Star & Exotic Dancer can develop a similar rivalry in the staying division to the one we had a few seasons ago in the 2m division between Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop & Well Chief.

Lets hope so.
National hunt racing is fantastic at the moment. Even if the 2mile divisions look weakish the staying chasing division is like living a dream. I’ve always been a fan of the flat but you never get anything like this.
If anyone can’t get excited by the jumps at the moment they’re in the wrong sport.

It’s just like that bit where Darth Vader turns back into Anniken Skywalker……sniff…….

I can’t get my Christmas shopping done!!

Kazal, Gr.1 chase first time – I want to see another star
December 1, 2007 at 21:45 #128298I would still be riding Kauto if I was Ruby.. Denman is always going to be susceptible to a horse that can travel like he can but has a finishing kick. Kauto and ED (To a lesser extent) are both that kind of horse.. Like in the ballymore properties when Nicanor went past him.
Breathtaking performance today though.. Harchibald was impressive as well.

verrrrry good
December 2, 2007 at 02:43 #128351he is the better horse and Kauto and possibly Nick Dundee are the only horses I have seen I rate and can talk about in the same breath as "Himself"
OK, OK. As others have already pointed out you’re absolutely off your head, but this was what got me:
In know way at this time would I even dream of puting Denman up there with the greats……….he’s won a poxy Hennessy that a hundred good horses that have run in the past could have won.
And Nick Dundee won what? The WIlliam Neville & Sons Novices’ Chase? He won the square root of bugger all and you’ve got him beating Arkle, whereas Denman isn’t as good as Kauto Star because he’s only won a ‘poxy Hennessey’?
Stupid man…wtf are you talking about?…who said Nick Dundee would beat Arkle?……….Get someone to read my other posts for you, regarding my thoughts on Arkle and eat your words you twat……BTW to further your education that little pic below my name is Nijinsky and Sir Ivor jumping the first hurdle at Cartmel last week…….Worth a bet next time out.they weren’t off a a yard……………tell al your friends on the way to reading lessons they can have a bet too.
And today’s lesson for the mentally retared is the word Possibly = "potentially" "could have been" might have turned out to be the best since………You get it?…..of course you don’t..go buy a friggin dictionary might help.
December 2, 2007 at 02:46 #128352BTW Denman won nothing but admiriation from me today but if you can’t see the form aint worth a bucket of **** then, you are blind as well as ignorant
December 2, 2007 at 08:12 #128357Amazing – a racing forum with several thousand members but only one good judge of form.

December 2, 2007 at 09:08 #128362I know a couple of people who will have the form measured as it actually is rather than allocating a number to a visually impressive display.
Whats the point of getting involved in futile arguments about how good it looked?
I am really surprised at the overreaction shown since yesterday afternoon.
Harchibalds performance was far superior.
December 2, 2007 at 09:23 #128366equally, so was Inglis Drever’s but that’s been largely ignored.
We do like something fresh and young though.
December 2, 2007 at 09:30 #128369Yes, the field Denman beat today wasn’t a particularly strong field in my opinion. However, it was the manner and ease with which he won the race under 11 stone 12, when it’s pretty well acknowledged that he’s a different animal in relation to Kauto Star in terms of the difficulty of getting him fit. As has been emphasised in this thread, I just hope all contenders make the Gold Cup fit and ready to do themselves justice, because it will be one hell of a race.
Was also a pleasure to see Inglis Drever looking as a good as ever. Not sure how strong the Fighting Fifth form is, considering Al Eile’s form over 2 miles isn’t particularly strong and top class. However, the manner of Harchibald’s facile victory was very taking and maybe the 2008 Champion Hurdle will see him deservedly triumph in some people’s eyes after going so close previously.
December 2, 2007 at 09:55 #128377It’s lovely to speculate about the likely outcome at Cheltenham but it’s probably odds against that Denman, Exotic Dancer and Kauto Star will all turn up fit and well on the day.
Hope I’m wrong and it takes place as we would hope. The jumps season has only just really got going and we seem ready to crown our champs already
Some other contenders may enter the picture and injuries are bound to occur among the elite.I was as impressed by Denman as anybody and I feel that he made the others look bad rather than them being a sub-par bunch as some are saying. I feel that the also rans will win a few good races later in the season.
December 2, 2007 at 12:37 #128407Anzum is correct ; it is the manner in which Denman won, irrespective of other factors, which has to be respected. I think Denman is one serious racehorse. Put is this way, I’m a believer.
I’d go as far to say that come Gold Cup day in March, he could very well leave his illustrious stable companion trailing in his wake up that Cheltenham hill.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
December 3, 2007 at 03:01 #128513Even I wouldn’t be surprised if he did H but someone asked the question would he have won like that had a horse of One Man’s standing been in the field carrying a low weight……….I would be mortgaging my homes if there had been.. it would have made him a better horse than Mill House. and Arkle would be turning in his grave.
To be honest despite the fact it would cost me a fortune I would love to see Denman win by 20 lengths. Racing needs champions every so often and I will be the first to applaud him if he can do what he done on Saturday to Kauto in the Gold Cup.
That’s from the heart but using my head and 30 years of experience of following top horses I think Denman will start about 9/2 on Gold Cup day and Kauto is already a true superstar. I think he will beat him easily a long with the rest of them.
December 3, 2007 at 03:42 #128514The manor in which Denman won cannot be overstated. He treated the field with contempt. Just did what he wanted didn’t even need another horse.
However he was beating horses rated 140’s and 150’s its a dig difference treating those horses with contempt than it is taking on the very best at level weights. Put Kauto Star in a race on the same terms with the second and third horses home on Saturday and does anyone seriously think Kauto would’ve come off the bridle?
Denman’s performance shows he’s a high class horse and I’d rate him around 172 – 175 which is a bloody good rating and means that he’s probably good enough to win an average Gold Cup against the likes Of War Of Attrition,
Last season I had Kauto Star 176 for his Gold Cup win and Exotic Dancer 173 which is some way below their best performances which leaves me wandering if either really truely gets 3 1/4 miles? Its difficult to say they don’t when they finish 1 2 in the Gold Cup but these two horses are so far ahead of the rest they are capable of running half a stone (give or take) below their best marks and still beating the rest.
Denman is about five or six pounds on my ratings behind Exotic Dancer and a bit further behind Kauto Star.
Next years Gold Cup might be run differently (pace / conditions) to this years and if Denman can run to 172 – 175 it means he’ll win or be very close if Kauto and Exotic don’t improve on their bare Gold Cup marks from 2007.
We KNOW though or at least I think I do through my own ratings, that Kauto and Exotic are capable of better whether or not they will ever achieve better ratings in the Gold Cup given the conditions of the race remains to be seen as it does whether or not Denman can improve and / or whether Denman can reproduce a 170+ run on ground that isn’t very soft as its unlikely to be at Cheltenham.
At this stage Denman whilst treating lesser horses with contempt still has to do it against the best and if someone gave me a free Gold Cup bet I’d still be backing Kauto.
