226-1 20 The Bull Hayes (MrsJHarrington) – 11,09
112- 21 Zaidpour (FR) (WPMullins) – 11,09This could be a hell of a race even if only half of these show up. All eyes will be on Zaidpur but the likes of Oscars Well and Hidden Universe could give him plenty to think about. It will be interesting to see how many Mullins will run because Aughaloor, Gagewell Flyer and So Young have plenty going for them.

February 2, 2011 at 18:53 #338834It’s looking that way. I’d have thought they would save him for a winners of one somewhere but he’s been entered in several of them recently only to be taken out at the declaration stage. They’re running out of options at this stage if they want to get a run in before Cheltenham – there’s a winners of one at Fairyhouse next Wednesday, there’s a conditions hurdle at Punchestown on 16 February (the race Rite Of Passage won last year) and there’s a Grade 2 novice at Naas on 20 February.
This should be an informative contest. It’s a pity that neither Hidden Cyclone or First Lieutenant run though. They would give us a good idea of how Zaidpour’s form stacks up. I expect Hidden Universe will give him a lot to think about here.
February 2, 2011 at 19:36 #338842Irelands Novice are a great bunch
Look at this race full of unbelievable quality. This is going to be just a unreal renewal. Best ever renewal
February 2, 2011 at 20:08 #338844Best ever renewal
It’ll be hard to top 2003 and 2004. Solerina beating Hardy Eustace. Brave Inca beating Newmill.
February 2, 2011 at 20:27 #338849But Novices just been taken as novices imperial.
All of these horses at the head of the market have been so mightly impressive so far.
Even Jessie and Noel Glynns are potentially very good
February 2, 2011 at 21:59 #338865I think Jessie’s and Glynn’s are both stayers. They’ll probably both end up in the 3 mile novice at Cheltenham. It’s hard to see them having the boot to go with Supreme Novice hopefuls like Zaidpour and Hidden Universe over 2m2.
The likes of So Young, Hidden Universe and Shot From The Hip are all promising horses but all they’ve done so far is win maiden hurdles.
February 4, 2011 at 11:44 #339001I expect Zaidpour to show the rest a clean pair of hooves. I’m hoping his last run was an off day and that we’ll see his true class on Sunday.

Which race is his likely target at Cheltenham?

Wouldn’t worry too much about Zaidpour’s latest run, as there was no great pace on (4.7 secs slower than the opening maiden), and the RP have the time-based going as no worse than g/s, which made the race nothing like the test of his previous facile hurdle wins.
With plenty of pace horses, likely heavy ground and 2f extra to travel, you’d expect him to put his most recent form well behind him.February 6, 2011 at 00:01 #339188Its disgusting that this meet will be run on bottomless ground.
A nightmare for all concerned but its stopped raining from 7 in Dublin so with that wind and no more rain we might not get as chappers would say "epra"(Spelling)? like conditions
February 6, 2011 at 00:05 #339189Completely echo Reet Hards’ thoughts. It’s easy to get caught out at Leopardstown after turning in off a steady pace. Hidden Universe is a very intriguing opponent though but both at the top of the market look a bit cramped.

I like the look of Oscars Well, he looked quite impressive on his last start at Navan. While, I don’t doubt that Zaidpour has some engine, I don’t think he is the neatest of hurdlers, and that observation is not from his Xmas run, but his Royal Bond outing.
