Another big Saturday handicap which again can go to Mr Henderson.
Trends wise we are looking for a 6 or 7 yo, ran 1 to 3 times this season and finished top 3 lto. Should have run in last 30 days and only run 2-4 chases and not be rated over 145.
Nadiya de la Vega has run very well the last twice and despite having ground to make up on Walkon, that one is up 5lbs and without doubt had a far harder race, Mr McCoy was very easy on NDLV and hopefully she is a nice EW prospect at 10s
December 9, 2012 at 20:49 #422217I’d be quite happy to ignore the trends and have an each way interest in Poquelin. Will have his ideal conditions and races off a feasable weight. 25/1 with Betred is just too big for the class horse in the race. Think he won this 2 years ago at a nice price if my memory serves me right.
December 9, 2012 at 21:48 #422222I’d be interested in NOTUS DE LA TOUR in this, Pipe has always held him in high regard and has won FTO in the past. CALGARY BAY may be another one for the shortlist.
December 10, 2012 at 09:53 #422258I bet him in the PP Andrew, and despite that showing, I’ll almost certainly have a bet on him again. Got the feeling he’s still got another big run in him.
I’ll wait until the 5 day decs are out, and only have a small bet on De Boitron
at the moment. Another one, who I think’s got a decent prize in him. Was at Kelso for his last run, and I thought at the time, it was an excellent prep race for a bigger pot in the future.Really like the look of Unioniste
too, if he can handle the tough conditions, and with the stable in flying form, would be easy to make a case for Astracad
.Really fancied Qauntitativeeasing for the PP, but he was beaten very quickly. A repeat of that run will give him no chance. However, I’ve long been of the opinion that his campaign, after his win in this last year, was only going to bring his mark down. He might need further nowadays anyway, but he’s gonna pop up in a big one sooner or later.
December 10, 2012 at 17:48 #422296With Poquelin out at the 5 day stage, will turn my attentions to Unioniste. Cant believe I missed his low weight looking through first time. Also might have a little each way on Tartak, he’s bound to pop up again sooner or later and off his current rating could very well be sooner.
December 10, 2012 at 19:58 #422310I’m a massive Nicholls fan but Unioniste at 4yo should struggle against these seasoned campaigners and is also out of the handicap
December 10, 2012 at 20:20 #422312Will the ground finally come right for Divers? No more rain, please!
December 11, 2012 at 03:00 #422359Notus De La Tour each way
There’s an awful lot of deadwood in this race – out of form, too high in the weights, not good enough. NDLT was given a 150 by the RP first time out last season, so 144 is not his limit at 6 years old.
December 11, 2012 at 13:28 #422394unioniste would be interesting but by the sounds of it he could run in the novice on friday or wait for the feltham.
December 11, 2012 at 13:49 #422398My opinion is that Unioniste, despite looking a decent prospect since joining Nicholls, would almost certainly find this a race too far at just 4.

He is related to My Will, though. That would give you hope, although I take your point about maturity.

I can’t deny he looks good and he has shown maturity beyond his years in his only 2 starts thus far, especially with his jumping, but it is the age concern which is the issue for me. He’d have to be seriously good to be winning races of this calibre at this stage of his career, even off such a low weight. Very promising horse though, one to keep an eye on.
December 11, 2012 at 19:36 #422433is he even that good anyway? or are people lazily backing him because of the nicholls connection? i’d just be a bit worried how easily fingal bay and dynaste brushed him aside last time, even good horses that they are.

For a 4 year old with very little experience and that’s built for staying further, I’d say that defeat was very encouraging indeed.
December 12, 2012 at 22:13 #422678With Cristal Bonus looking like a certain runner now I’d have to give him a massive shout of running into a place at worst. Personally think he’s better than his 157 mark he’ll be running off and there were definite excuses for his bad run at the festival.
Nadiya De La Vega
has had 2 very encouraging runs at Cheltenham this season and hasn’t been raised for her 3rd place finish in the Paddy Power, which I think could give her the edge over Walkon(up 5lbs), who I’d have my doubts with anyway over whether he could string 2 solid jumping performances together. Fits a lot of race trends as well, could be another good weekend for Nicky
December 13, 2012 at 02:37 #422707Interesting to see who McCoy rides in this, he bypassed Quantitative last year and look what happened will he make the same mistake again? ATR currently have McCoy down to ride both Nadiya and Quantitative anyone heard which he is likely to go for?
The one thing that puts me off Nadiya is McCoy was a little negative in an interview before the Paddy Power saying he didn’t think she was good enough. If she wasn’t good enough to win that, can she win this?

This is definitely a race of lesser quality, with fewer unexposed horses.
Gobsmacked they think of Quantitativeeasing as a National type.
