Sizing Europe won’t be out of a canter to beat this lot IMO 6/4 is stealing money.

December 21, 2008 at 23:22 #198493If Sizing Europe doesn’t beat that lot then you should ask for your AP Binocular winnings already. River Liane is interesting don’t know what to make of the horse yet.

December 22, 2008 at 04:19 #198583Watch out for Snap Tie to give Binocular fans some food for thought… 20/1 for the champion still available
December 22, 2008 at 04:36 #198584Don’t think Snap Tie will be running at Leopardstown Andrew.
6/4 Sizing Europe looks decent alright. I’d have thought they might have put him in odds on. Hard to see him getting beat. Will be a much better horse for his run in the Morgiana.
Hope he puts up a performance similar to his AIG win. He’s the only horse I can see giving Binocular something to think about. Could be a heck of a race come March if both of them get there fit and healthy.
December 22, 2008 at 04:51 #198587sorry, was thinking of the christmas hurdle, got it wrong (although think he was entered at one point)
December 22, 2008 at 05:18 #198594He’ll have every chance at Kempton Andrew. Don’t think there is anything of Sizing Europe’s class running in the Christmas Hurdle though.
Anyone else surprised that Sublimity is going to run here instead of going to Kempton? Would have thought that race would be right up his street. This race will be more of a test of stamina with the likely soft going and Brave Inca and Hardy taking them along up front.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Muirhead is the one to chase SE home. He simply didn’t stay in the Hattons Grace. River Liane is an interesting one alright but his price doesn’t exactly represent great value for what he’s achieved on the track so far in his career.
December 22, 2008 at 05:44 #198599Not really suprised with the Sublimity entry. The ground is likely to be heavier than at Kempton. I always got the impression the heavier the ground, the better he travels (and quickens for that matter). Just look at his prep race before winning the champion hurdle. Ok it was only a minor race in comparison but I’ve never seen a horse accelerate so quickly at the end of a race in what was basically a bog.
Go on the attheraces website and take a look, unbelievable speed considering the going
Plus he lives in Ireland so easier all round
December 22, 2008 at 08:18 #198607He would be as well staying in Ireland come Champion Hurdle day if he needs heavy ground Andrew. I think he has enough problems staying 2 miles on good ground without having to slog his wasy through a bog.
I am amazed at their decision and already said so in another thead. Plus Punjabi wouldn’t blow wind up Sixing Europe’s backside which does make me wonder if they know something we don’t, but then I’ve always been a suspicous bugger
December 22, 2008 at 12:40 #198616Fists, from your posts, it is very difficult to imagine anyone knowing something you don’t know.

His only hurdle wins have come on soft or heavy ground (including a very fast champion hurdle), Even as a flat horse, he was arguably better on soft or heavy ground. He has a high leg action which allows horses like him to travel better on softer ground than they do on anything better.
Until he betters the form he’s shown on soft/heavy, dont really know how you can say anything else.
Saying that I really hope Sizing Europe not only wins but wins impressively. All this Binocular talk is annoying me. (good, but not that good)

I think AP would disagree with you on that score. Best the has ever ridden is the most recent war cry! He only beat last years Triumph Hurdle and CH winner in a canter
Sublimity’s only win on heavy ground was against a bunch of second rate boats at Navan. He was 1/3 for pete’s sake and the second never won a race in his life.
Pretty sure good or good to soft ground would be in his favour when it comes to getting the trip. He has won a couple on firm on the flat and he was found wanting on soft again at Wetherby.
But on reflection he should have the beating of Hardy Eustace and Brave Inca based on his CH win (worst CH I ever saw) and If Sizing Europe is not right he could possibly win…….whereas he would have both Punjabi and Pierrot Lunaire breathing down his neck at Kempton and could end up with less reward. Long way to travel as you say.
December 23, 2008 at 18:21 #198829I’m a big fan of SE and hope to see him do his thang on Monday.
Then it will be interesting to see if Binny fans begin to waver…

First of all, jockeys always say that about a horse they’ve recently won well on. It’s nothing new.
Secondly, I know Sublimity’s win at Navan was against a bunch of no hopers, that wasn’t my point. My point was how much better he travels and quickens on softer ground (the reason I took the 20’s on him after seeing it). Granted he won a few decent flat races on good/firm but the fact he won off a flat mark of 108 in soft ground would tend to back me up (never even reached for the stick)

I think when McCoy said he was the best hurdler he had ridden, he was mostly referring to his ability to actually get over a hurdle. Flawless technique.

December 24, 2008 at 03:51 #198899We hear this tripe time and time again – BJK was the best AP had ever ridden, right before connections ducked Denman at Cheltenam.
December 24, 2008 at 09:33 #198936Wouldn’t expect anything different from you Pru Never anything constructive to say…you should change your name to the Dark Destroyer.
December 24, 2008 at 17:01 #198998Come on the Inca
My prediction is that Sizing Europe is this generations Harchibald.
