If the incident that resulted in Russell’s ban wouldn’t deter newcomers from the sport from attending again then I would be amazed.
You get only 3 days off for repeatedly striking another animal across the face, compared to 14 days for being cheeky to the stewards.
Racing needs a long hard look in the mirror, in my view.
Credit to the stewards for picking up on it, but 3 days !
I shake my head.October 2, 2016 at 15:41 #1265450Didn’t look good – worthy of a 30 day ban rather than 3 IMO that sort of thing.
October 2, 2016 at 17:49 #1265464Didn’t he get more for verbally abusing the stewards? Who does he think that he is??? Nothing more than an average jockey and only winning when he wants to. He and Charles Byrnes got nicely away with their smoothly landed coup.
October 2, 2016 at 20:10 #1265472I agree with the original sentiments. Some clown on ATR was actually trying to suggest he didn’t do it on purpose.
As for doing anything about it what do you expect from a sport that tolerates animals being hit with the whip as part of the day-to-day entertainment?

Maybe that is the explanation for the strange whip action he developed ;) - AuthorPosts
