Quevega is the one they have to beat, but it remains to be seen how good she really is.
I’ve backed
Issaquah
at 50/1 on the strength of the impression she made in winning at Kelso and Haydock three and four outings ago. Her subsequent run behind Songe wasn’t at all bad, given that Afsoun and Snap Tie finished in front of her, and recent handicap winner European Dream was some seven lengths behind, and I’m prepared to forgive her performance at Ascot. The ground is likely to suit, she’ll stay all day and is perhaps the dark horse in the race.
March 10, 2009 at 08:44 #214806I grabbed 9/2 about United which looks like a bet to nothing to me. I’m amazed they sent Whiteoaks for the Champion Hurdle but even more surprised at the price the bookies are offering.
As low as 11/1 it has got to be the biggest piss take in the history of the race. Her 2 mile form by CH standards is moderate to say the least and She shoud be at least twice her current odds and has absolutely no chance IMO.
March 10, 2009 at 09:31 #214807Very interested in United – she’s trimmed up to 7/2 now.
March 10, 2009 at 15:41 #214870Oscar Rebel will appreciate the better ground she will encounter today and really is the one to beat. Today’s ground is a country mile away from the mires she has been running on this season and we will see a far different horse.
She’s an each way certainty.
March 10, 2009 at 15:48 #214871Gonna back United to win, as a Manchester United fan!
March 10, 2009 at 15:54 #214872Grassy,
Alan King described Over Sixty as a ‘social runner’ at the preview I did on Sunday evening – he’d be happy to see her finish in the first six. Owner wanted to run her and he was happy to go along with him.
Mind you, he wasn’t expecting Katchit last year ……..
March 10, 2009 at 16:39 #214890I suppose the favourite could be special.
I fancy give it time to do something here.

March 10, 2009 at 16:46 #214892Not sure ground will be soft enough for Queva so imho she is worth taking on, while Chomba Womba may have just caught one or two cold in early season. That leaves only United who is a proven class performer against the males and is clearly over her injury. Think Venetia’s may be best of the rest and rates small ew chance.
March 10, 2009 at 17:58 #214918Just a quick one folks, if the ground does appear to be riding soft today then Sweetheart at 28-1 could be a very good e/w bet in the david nicholson.
Oscar Rebel shouldnt be inconvenienced by soft ground and should still go very well, but 28-1 about sweetheart on what looks her ideal trip and conditions loooks a bit too tempting.
Good luck folks
March 10, 2009 at 21:56 #215040Get in there !!!!!!!!!!!
That is what you call a mare. Excuse my relief, but that was a saver. Just how good was that performance ?
March 10, 2009 at 22:07 #215042I’d call her a mare myself.
Well done.
March 11, 2009 at 03:00 #215135Awesome performance. She wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Champion getting the 7lbs.
Hurricane Fly’s reputation got some boost today without leaving his box though didn’t he?
March 11, 2009 at 05:30 #215189Issaquah ran like a 10/1 shot, never mind the 80/1 she was laid at by the main bookie at Southwell just before the off.
While she would never have beaten the easy winner in a hundred attempts, I think she would have got a little closer at Aintree.
The impressive Haydock scorer didn’t face the hill, took too wide a course, on ground not soft enough and I’m not convinced Mr Jefferson is a Cheltenham trainer either. But on the positive side, she travelled really nicely and I thought she was going to place coming round the bend. It was clear to me that Kinsella looked after her when the race was over.
Is there a race for her at Aintree? Haydock? I think we’re on to something here.

Mentioned that indirectly on another thread. The Irish novice hurdle form from 2m to 2m4f looks very very good.
