What is Maxwell doing for a living? He surely must be a multi-millionaire in triple figures considering how easy he spends a quarter million on a single horse. I’m quite sure he has at least 25-30 horses in his ownership and quite a lot of them have been expensive purchases.
January 28, 2023 at 16:12 #1632666He breaks mirrors and walks under ladders on only fans

February 24, 2023 at 12:49 #1636831I notice how Harry Cobden has been riding the Maxwell horses trained by Nicholls recently. He is riding another one at Kempton tomorrow.
Is Maxwell injured or has he called it a day?
February 24, 2023 at 13:27 #1636840Maybe it means they are trying to win now that the horse has been dropped 7lbs for those two Maxwell rides?
February 24, 2023 at 17:44 #1636871Nicholls column on Betfair confirms that David Maxwell is currently injured. Not sure how or where that happened as his last ride was at Sandown over hurdles and that one completed the course, although well beaten.
February 25, 2023 at 05:06 #1636926Cobden on ST Calvados today ….. Well handicapped and a lovely e.w price
January 29, 2024 at 16:50 #1679045Mr Maxwell on Cat Tiger, 8/11 favourite, ran out in the last at Hereford.
I am not sure he could have stopped it but Mick Fitzgerald clearly thought he should have had his whip in the other hand.
I know he puts the money in and he is entitled to ride his own horses (it was a Hunter Chase). But anyone who takes odds on for one of his mounts is braver than me!
January 29, 2024 at 20:49 #1679070Fed up with this nonsense. We can choose not to bet on amateurs but can’t predict their effect on the race overall. Let them enjoy their hobby in the races sacrificed to indulge them and let professionals get on with their work.
January 29, 2024 at 21:10 #1679075Ouch, a bit harsh. The fav for the Greatwood did the same under Danny Mullins, and he was a known rouge that Danny should have been ready for (well he did try to stop him but he probably should have had the horse buried in the pack).
I don’t think Maxwell has ever fouled up and carried out anybody else or ridden so badly that he has caused horrendous interference that professionals would never be guilty of. I don’t mind the amateurs. I remember watching Double Silk in the National and my mum cheering him on.
January 29, 2024 at 21:19 #1679078I would agree it is harsh only because Fitzgerald is very reluctant to criticise a professional yet picked on an amateur – but that doesn’t make his basic point wrong.
As pointed out earlier, Maxwell rides winners and good luck to him. He puts money into the game and I am sure his trainers are grateful for his custom. But from a punters point of view, he is far too unreliable to bet on – especially at odds on. I don’t consider that unfair.
January 29, 2024 at 21:42 #1679082I meant harsh to want to ban amateurs from open races, not harsh to give David Maxwell the swerve when you’re placing a bet.
January 29, 2024 at 22:58 #1679091I guess it is for a good reason that lot of Hunters’ Chases are run as the last race on the card. Just don’t bother with them.
But look, you could follow Paul Townend during the current Irish NH season and despite his 40% strike rate you would still be losing about 25 points.January 31, 2024 at 05:06 #1679157Play to your advantage , a lot of his horses go off short , take the value in the race and you’ll get some nice pickups
