has anyone read his new book? im asking so i know whether to buy it or not with christmas coming up etc,
November 5, 2007 at 18:52 #123070Yes I read it last week. I thought it was a very good read. Its not a manual on how to make money from gambling on horses, more the day to day story of
how Nevison goes about his business oncourse and the festivities after. He dosent take himself too seriously and the book is very funny in places. He’s also very forthright in his opinions on trainers, jockeys, tv pundits etc.., which I enjoyed and mostly agreed with.
November 5, 2007 at 18:56 #123072sounds good to me then, i shall get a copy, thanks for that
November 5, 2007 at 19:11 #123079I’ve ordered it. I’m as much interested in it for David Ashforth’s contributions as for David Nevison’s.
November 5, 2007 at 19:12 #123080The Racing Post is running extracts from the book for four days from tomorrow onwards.

There aren’t any, it’s all Nev.

November 5, 2007 at 19:57 #123093Definitely worth a read.
November 5, 2007 at 21:00 #123103What does "Dave Nevison with David Ashforth" mean then?
I assumed it meant that Ashforth had knocked Nevison’s otherwise unruly thoughts and words into shape.
November 5, 2007 at 22:20 #123112As an autobiography, it’s poor. As an insight into his day to day activities, it’s good, though anyone expecting a Potts or Mordin style tome will be disappointed since there is little of substance there.
It is billed as a warts and all expose of the life of a professional gambler but it isn’t very rock and roll, for all that he snipes at those of an ‘anorak’ persuasion. He emerges as a slightly tragic but not unpleasant figure, obsessed with betting on horses and not all that interested in the sport itself or indeed anything else.
Having scoured the book, I can find no evidence of any Ashforthian influence, it reads like an extended Nevison column, without the sprightliness of the weekly diary.
November 5, 2007 at 22:39 #123115You can get a new copy of the book on Amazon for £ 8.98 plus
postage £ 2.75 . .November 5, 2007 at 22:43 #123118Will probably buy it as I’ve a got a fair bit of time for the bloke, despite him being in danger of over exposure nowadays.
Whenever I see him in the flesh on-course he tends to look knackered and glum: goes with the territory I suppose.
November 6, 2007 at 06:39 #123138It isn’t a literary masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination Pru, but is definitely an entertaining read.
November 7, 2007 at 17:41 #123458Having stayed in the Royal Hotel at Bognor Regis during Glorious Goodwood week and watched Mr Nevison pursue what can only be described as "a ropey old Tote bird" it brought back some painful memories.
November 7, 2007 at 18:25 #123462Yes, reading his weekly RFO columns it comes as no surprise that he’s had difficulty staying married….I’m reading it too and enjoying it. For sheer suspense and excitement it doesn’t touch Mounty’s new NH book though.

Not enough sex in Mounty’s book for me. * Please take note for next year’s version.

Worry not, Rory. Look out for the new edition of Hunter Chasers and Point-to-Pointers in the next few days – it’s red hot and filthy.
