One of my favourite Flat Races this, love it….

As per usual, my attention is drawn to A Momentofmadness. Love this horse, he’ll land this race one day, and I’m more than happy to see him open at 25’s. I’m aware that he’ll have other options, and could go to France, but that’s a fine price.
Pettochside is another horse I’ve followed, but I’ve avoided him for a wee while now. Any signs of encouragement today, and I’ll take the 33’s for him.
Tough race as always, and I’ll hopefully get a chance to have a proper bet on Madness, but for now, just an early play for a few quid.
A Momentofmadness 25’s Each Way
May 4, 2019 at 17:03 #1431194I don’t think I’ll be in a rush to add Pettochside after that today.
May 11, 2019 at 13:58 #1434954No concerns at all with Madness at Chester, not a lot went right, and I hope this remains the plan.
One who interests me at a price, is Eeh Bah Gum. I’m not convinced that he’s plateaued, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fared, if he traps at York this week. With Pettochside disappointing again yesterday, EBG could be very interesting here as backup at 33’s.
May 12, 2019 at 00:58 #1435153I was all over Amomentofmadness for this last year.
I felt absolutely sick when he swerved it to go to a poxy French Group 3. Bonkers decision.
I’ll be on him here if he runs.
May 27, 2019 at 17:03 #1442318Hathiq 6-1
May 27, 2019 at 17:10 #1442319Didn’t even look at the odds, but I must have Caspian Prince on this.
Watch out for Duke of Firenze and Copper Knight both in cracking form.
A MomentofMadness also stands out.
May 28, 2019 at 02:19 #1443456A momentofmadness not declared I think?
May 28, 2019 at 02:40 #1443457This looks an absolute cracker of a race this year, and as competitive as always. Caspian
Prince is a standing dish in this, a triple time winner and even at 10 there’s no way I’m
about to write him off, you only need look at Duke Of Firenze last week at York who is another
not quite ready to pull his pension. Good luck with him viktors.I do like the look of Tarboosh, and I hope Caspian Prince stays in or the
weights will raise 6lbs and he’d be only 1lb off top weight in this. I had an interest in
him last year, but he got badly hampered and then ran around behind them like a supermarket
trolley with a wonky wheel until running on again late when he had some daylight. He came back
out this year with a decent 3rd in the Borderlescott Sprint at Musselburgh. He ran a good race
last time out in a fairly hot race in the Palace House Stakes for some way before being badly
hampered in the final furlong. He was well held at the time, and was eased after that. I think
that Epsom will suit him really well, 5f is as far as he needs, and the downhill sprint here
should see him last home. There’s still plenty of 16/1 about and that seems
decent enough. If I though for a minute that Lathom would make the cut, I’d be all over him
like a rash. He’s a horse that has run off a mark of 100, before leaving Richard Fahey and spending
time with David O’Meara and then Julie Camacho. In that 3 year spell neither seemed able to get
a tune out of him and he had dropped to a mark of 70 before transferring to Paul Midgley in April.
I reckon Midgley is as good as anyone with sprinters since Dandy Nicholls passed away and he seems
to have found the key to him based on his last 2 starts. A decent runner up at Hamilton, but even
more impressive when just going down to Duke Of Firenze by a neck at Thirsk. That one didn’t do the
form any harm winning again next time out at York. He’s 9lbs better off with DOF this time and that
one is a general 10/1 shot whilst Lathom is 100/1 with Bet365. The problem is that he needs a shedload
of horses to pull out for him to squeeze in. He’d also need some of the heavy weights, or at least
Caspian Prince to pull out or he’s running well outside the handicap. I’m not so bothered about the
weight, as I think potentially he could be very very well in. It’s unlikely he’ll get in, but at
100/1 I don’t mind losing a few quid in the off chance. If by some miracle he does get in I think he’s about a 20/1 chance, perhaps better.May 28, 2019 at 11:17 #1443463I too like TARBOOSH Graham but am waiting to see the draw before having a bet!!
The other one I like at a big price is FOOL FOR YOU trained by Fahey who probably needed it at Chester and could have been laid out for this!!
But like I say am waiting for the draw cos not many win from a low draw even though some of the high numbers will have hard luck stories
May 30, 2019 at 01:17 #1443552No great shock to see A Momentofmadness sit this out, and he’s looked way short of his best so far.
I missed the 33’s, but took the 16’s for Eeh Bah Gum. Not without hope at all, but another decent renewal on the cards.
I’ll probably go double handed in this, but not going to complicate this, as I could genuinely make a case for all of them, so I’m fairly sure I’ll just settle for Caspian Prince as backup.
Eeh Bah Gum 16’s
May 31, 2019 at 21:55 #1443825I can’t have the low drawn horses !!
This does look tricky though and have backed three horses each way five places.HAROME at 16/1 looks like he is coming to form and this race could be a perfect fit.
RECON MISSION at 20/1 but my main worry is the three year old getting outpaced and being too far back but had to back it at the price.
MUTHMIR 12/1 I know he is nine years old now but this race will suit him down to the ground and will be finishing well providing he gets the gaps!!Good Luck
I think we need it for this race!June 1, 2019 at 01:43 #1443871Copper Knight for me @ 9/1 (E/W 6 places)
June 1, 2019 at 02:28 #1443875One of my favourite Flat Races this, love it….
Bloody hell, VTC.
Each to his own and all that, but this is one of my least favourite flat races. Any interference affects a 5f sprint handicapper’s chance more than any other, because of the speed it’s going/momentum lost and little time to recover… and in Epsom’s 5f they’re going quicker than at any other course in the world. Then you’ve got the draw which sometimes favours the rail runner enormously, sometimes doesn’t… And so few 5f races at the track a punter doesn’t know beforehand. Sorry, luck in running has far too much emphasis on the result for me.Who wins, who cares? Well, you obviously do, but you see what I mean.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2019 at 13:26 #1444004These are my final 4 darts.
Obviously Caspian Prince, at 25/1.
Copper Knight at 10/1
Recon Mission at 14/1
Just Glamorous at 25/1gL everybody!
June 1, 2019 at 13:54 #1444008I’m a bit miffed that Tarboosh didn’t take his place here. I’m not sure why, but he’s
not entered elsewhere. I know what you mean Ginger, it is the literal cavalry charge and
it’s in the lap of the Gods if you can chart a passage through them. It is a bit of a
spectacle though, and maybe not for the purists, but I’m with Bobby on this one, even
if it does show I’ve got a screw loose
I’ve had a go at Muthmir at 17/2. Fourth in the
Kings Stand and the Coral Charge off a mark of 114 in 2017, and runner up in the Coral
Charge last year off 110. Not quite been up to that since, but he’s dropped to a handy
mark of 105 and should have a shout here off of that.June 1, 2019 at 14:13 #1444010Fair point, BigG; it is a spectacle and tbh I do enjoy that spectacle. Well worth its place in the racing programme.
Just as a betting proposition it’s perhaps my least favourite race.
I’ll be cheering on Muthmir for you, had a few nice wins on him over the years. Judging by Goodwood he likes a fast undulating track and stable is going well.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2019 at 15:14 #1444033Sticking with Hathiq 6-1 ew. Ideally doesn’t want to miss the break.
