Announced his retirement after riding Impaire Et Passe to win the Grade 1 at Limerick.

The Grand National win on Neptune Collonges was obviously a highlight – it certainly was for me!
Putting Might Bite on the floor in the Feltham was a low point.
He has had rotten luck with injuries but I am glad he is getting out in one piece and wish him well.
December 29, 2024 at 18:39 #1717003Best wishes to him, glad he was able to get to 1,000 winners beforehand – probably should have immediately retired after IEP’s win which would have been the ideal icing on the cake moment.
Sounds like he will be continuing on within the ‘Double Green’ in some capacity which is good considering his long association with them.
December 29, 2024 at 20:56 #1717013All the best Daryl Jacob, my highlights of your career would be the partnership with Bristol De Mai and Sceau Royal

December 30, 2024 at 00:03 #1717015I have the same memory, CAS.
tbh As my 50/1 shot win only bet Neptune Collonges crossed the line I was shouting at the TV and swearing at Daryl for leaving it too f…… late! Only for a few moments later to be thanking him for getting up.
More of a finesse rather than a kitchen sink jockey.
Happy retirement Mr Jacob.
Value Is EverythingDecember 30, 2024 at 21:04 #1717083Hope he has a happy retirement, seems like a good guy and genuinely loves the horses as individuals. He was so happy to win on Impaire Et Passe on Saturday (and that last fence was not exactly a married man’s safe little pop) and flung his arms around the horse’s neck, obviously meant a lot to him.
Good luck in your future career Daryl.December 30, 2024 at 21:49 #1717085I wish him a happy retirement and a lot of success in his new position working for Simon, Isaac and Anthony. It was the right time to retire and he seems a very enjoyable person.
Very good interview from Gary O’Brien who knows his trade very well. Here it is:
December 31, 2024 at 17:23 #1717148He was a jockey i (irrationally) avoided for years due to falling off The Listener at Down Royal (convinced myself it was a bad sit).
But he grew on me, seemed to be a very good horseman who lived for the racing. Will be a good addition to any racing team or broadcaster.
Wonder if Bryony gets the uk rides now, if theres many left?
December 31, 2024 at 17:35 #1717150Mr Hales really trusted him when he rode for him in the National. He told him that, if Neptune Collonges was unhappy at any stage of the race (even going down to the start) he was to pull him up. They brought the trophy to our racing club to show us afterwards; he was lovely.
December 31, 2024 at 20:45 #1717172Wishing him all the best for the future, one of my favourite jockeys, a proper horseman whose love for the horses was evident. Good to hear he’ll still be involved in some capacity with the double green team, hopefully he’ll be doing some broadcasting work too.
