Only the supporting act, true; but there will be a handful of TRF Elite members who’ll have been as thrilled as I was by Dandino‘s game, battling success in this afternoon’s Jockey Club Stakes, his first pattern race victory and the first Group 2 for the Club since Soviet Song’s Windsor Forest in 2006.
Well done James Given, for saddling the 1st and 3rd home. Coronation Cup is Dandino’s next target – watch out Fame and Glory!

He was fortunate that Queally decided to put his whip down after edging ahead late on, but his progress under James Given has been quite remarkable.

Take nothing away from Dandino, but, had I had a bet in the race, I would have been sorely displeased with the ride on the 2nd. KF got a holiday for much the same thing

Count the number of whip strokes,
Reet
. Queally did not stop riding the horse out, and his problem was that he’d have got a holiday for using his whip on the runner-up more than he did. The same would have been true for Mulrennan on Dandino.
It seems that two jockeys riding a finish in a significant Pattern Race have played fair by the rules, for once – so what would we have?
If you’re saying that the rules are a charade, of course I would agree with you. But it was Dandino’s resolution (and luck having his head down on the line) which made the difference, not Queally’s lack of application.

April 30, 2011 at 23:03 #353017It was a cracking race & Dandino after looking beaten, showed his tenacity by fighting back & getting the nod literally on the line. He works lazily at home compared to Indian Days so does need some rousting.
All praise to Native Ruler too after 631 days off the course, how game was he, giving Dandino 1lb.
A great run back in third from Indian Days too with his 3lb penalty. A good day all round for teams Given & Cecil. - AuthorPosts
