Never mind Coneygree, Vautour et al – I was at Plumpton today and could not help but be impressed by the way this progressive young ten-year-old, aided and abetted by a mere 3lb drop in the handicap from 84 to 81, was able to convert a 26-length defeat last time out into a commanding 20-length lead and still travelling strongly when falling three out.

The Racing Post – not unreasonably – forecast him to start 7/1 today.

    His SP was 5/2.

Just a coincidence, of course, along with the the other coincidence in the race – his stablemate being pulled up in this highly-competitive, six-runner epic.
