Got to back my TTF horse Hunter’s Yarn even though 7-2 is no price.
Disappointing in the Hilly Way where he was too keen, didn’t get into a rhythm and didn’t help his jockey at all, ignorantly battering fences when he met them wrong instead of having the wit and manners to adjust his stride. He’s got a decent engine though and I’m hopeful of a better showing today.I like American Mike too but think he needs half a mile further, looked to be flat out over 2m last time.
January 11, 2025 at 12:02 #1717855Went with Rebel Gold here.
Previous winner, and though still higher than that day, I’m happy enough with his recent quiet runs over hurdles.
Even happier with his run in The Grade 2 here in April, and with seven pound claimer booked, reckon he’s got a solid EW Chance

January 11, 2025 at 12:10 #1717860I’m a American Mike fan , while he may prefer longer in conditions it may well play into his hands

The more I know the less I understand.
January 11, 2025 at 13:53 #1717890Hunters Yarn jumped badly despite being given a clear sight of the fences. Worth Gavin Cromwell filling the lorry today, €90k in prize money for the first 3.
January 11, 2025 at 15:49 #1717902Hunters Yarn’s tends to jump better when making the running. With other front runners Townend did the right thing keeping wide in the hope of him jumping better but didn’t work. I wouldn’t give up on him Green’ – if there are no other front runners in the race.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 11, 2025 at 17:33 #1717907I had hoped they would just bounce him out, kick on and hope for the best Ginger, my heart sank when I saw him lining up further back. Going to be the same horses in the big 2m handicap chases for the rest of the year and there are always going to be some front runners.
Maybe he could pick up a small field affair like the Newlands chase but I’m not convinced he’s going to use his engine to win a couple of big handicaps and then have a tilt at a G1 as I hoped he might. I don’t really like horses whose jumping goes to pot any time anything else is near it; it’s too limiting. I don’t like horses who won’t learn either. A pity as he has the scope to jump and looked good and bold as a beginner. I had thought his poor Arkle run was maybe just a sign of something slightly amiss, as he didn’t reappear, but maybe he doesn’t like proper competitive races. Or else something more long term physical actually wrong. Either way- meh.
January 11, 2025 at 17:57 #1717910Bruised sternum according to stewards report. Didn’t think he’d actually bulldozed any (in fact I thought his jumping was overly cautious if anything) but I suppose he must have.
