I did mention somewhere that having dug out my old lap top because my current machine is playing up and I had found a few old systems which could be easily passed their sell by date.
Just for a little bit of fun I thought I would try one out.
All Mirror readers will know within the race card of 8 or more horses 3 will favoured with either SF, F or EW rating and the idea in a nut shell is to find two at a forecast price of 6/1 or more.
It is a bit of a chore but starting with SF and races of 8, check for any at 6/1+ (unlikely but try we must), before proceeding to races of 9, 10, 11 and 12 in order to find such a horse.
If none go the the races with 9 runners and look for the SF’s in the hope of findin any at 6/1, then 10 runners, then 11 and last of all 12.If none are found repeat the process with the F horses starting with 8 runner races then 9 and so on.
Again if none are found restart with the 8 runner races all over again but this time checking the EW picks.
I did say it was a bit of a chore and lets hope it is worthwhile.
I found two forecast at 6/1+ but one is only available lower than 6’s and so I am hoping the jolly old BOG kicks in.
Carlisle 2.20 BASFORD BEN 9/2 with Vic WON 7/2
Newton Abbot 4.55 MOLLY OSCAR 7/1 with Fred. Lost
50p ew singles and 20p ew double (Vic) Return £3.16p = +76p
Fingers crossed.

March 30, 2016 at 11:49 #1240324I am trying to make this idea work in a less complicated way and will try it out for a few days to see what happens.
My thinking is a little muddled but starting with races having fewer runners and looking for forecast prices for the SF, F and EW horses as close as possible to 6/1 (ideally just under such as 11/2, 5/1) and by adding the forecast SP and number of runners thus making the selections.
Exeter 2.30 WINNING SPARK 8 declared + FcSp 5/1 = 13 Lost
Kempton 7.55 CHEVALLIER 8 declared + FcSp 5/1 = 13
Keeping things as simple as I can with a 25p e/w double only.
WINNING SPARK 7/1 & CHEVALLIER 15/2 with SkyBet
I do like this idea but if anyone has a suggestion how to calculate two selections at each way prices please post the formula.

March 31, 2016 at 10:36 #1240399I am still keeping the stake regarding this idea as small as possible knowing the chances of it becoming a winner is almost as big as winning the Lotto.
When did it suddenly become the LOTTO after starting life as the LOTTERY? . . .and Why?
Two at Chelmsford this evening: –
6.40 NASRI 14/1 & 8.40 FABLE OF ARACHNE 9/2
25p ew double BetVictor

April 2, 2016 at 12:06 #1240655The Daily Mirror system from my youth was to back horses that were the Spothorse, forecast favourite and SF.
It all stemmed from one Bank Holiday in the late 80s when all 12 qualifiers won. It’s burned on my memory that we did some multiple bets and picked up more than £100 for stakes of pennies. To a 15-year-old, that was a fortune!
Pretty sure more care was taken with the Spotform ratings and the SF selections in those days, would be amazed if it wasn’t all computer generated now.
To illustrate that was probably just a fluke, today’s selections would be:
Ozzie The Oscar, 2.00 Newbury
Aston Cantlow, 2.05 Uttoxeter
Belardo, 3.55 Doncaster
Volunteer Point, 4.10 Kempton
Calling Des Blins, 5.30 UttoxeterApril 3, 2016 at 09:40 #1240731Mull74.
I am not sure I can remember being 15 but can only think I was more interested in girls rather than horses.
£100! My apprenticeship starting wage at age 15 was under £2 per week and so £100 was equal to a full year pay, no wonder I still bet in pennies.
It is good reprise some of the old systems of which there are still a few kicking around and hope this one does well for you and will be interesting to see the results perhaps over a week or so and I will see if I can find any old Mirror ones myself but it will not be today as I am off for the best Sunday roast in Kings Lynn, well its only my opinion but jolly good anyway and will cost about 6 months salary back in 1958. Inflation hey.

April 3, 2016 at 17:10 #1240778Checked the Racing Ahead – 20 Super Systems booklet where I found an almost identical system to that which Mull74 refers.
The only difference being NON HANDICAP races are selected as races of choice.
When this crops up and it does within workable systems NON HANDICAP races are never clearly defined.
Can anyone say within this context exactly outside of handicaps what they are?
Maidens, claimers, sellers, NH flat races, novice, conditions, . . . . are their more?

Hi Billion
I can answer this and it really is simple:If it says handicap in the race title it is a handicap, if it doesn’t then it is not a handicap.
Some example from today-
Non Handicaps
2:20 Ling Cantering Cuisine Novice Median Auction Stakes
2:50 Ling Ryan Asset Management Selling Stakes
3:20 Ling TTS Networks Maiden Stakes
2:10 Winc Tom Perrett 60th Birthday Mares´ Novices´ Hurdle
4:40 Winc ApolloBet Fair Play Money Back Open Hunters´ Chase (for The John Dufosee Memorial Trophy)
17:10 Winc ApolloBet Casino & Games “Newcomers” Standard Open National Hunt Flat RaceHandicaps
3:50 Ling Avensys Handicap
4:20 Ling JEC Fillies´ Handicap
4:50 Ling Ryan Vehicles Handicap
2:40 Winc Jim Morgan & Ronnie Stevens Memorial Handicap Hurdle
3:10 Winc ApolloBet Cashback If You Finish 2nd Handicap Chase
3:40 Winc ApolloBet Best Odss Guaranteed Handicap HurdleApril 4, 2016 at 18:29 #1240874Thanks for the reply Dolus.
However I do wonder when the system creators state NON HANDICAP if they wish all without handicap in the name to be considered.
Many clearly state to avoid such races for amateur riders, apprentice races the same and even the sexist swines will advice against LADY riders.
So when trying to get into the mind of such a creator my own interpretation would be the likes of class 1 affairs such as group races and listed races etc. and not sellers, claimers, conditions or maiden races.
What a minefield.
As another alternative for the Mulls74 system may I suggest what could or should be a winner finder although not one that will find 12 winners in just one day but perhaps a little more selective.
D. Mirror SPOT horse + SF + Forecast favourite but using Clive Holt’s form score of the previous 2 races: –
1st = 5pts, 2nd = 3pts, 3rd = 2pts & 4th = 1pt.
Of those with the Spot, SF and Forecast favourite select the one (or those equal) with the highest score.
VIA VOLUPTA (2.15 Wincanton) won today at 1/1
GLENDERMOT (2.30 Warwick) lost
Each scored 6pts.I agree it is not an earth moving moment but may possibly be worth watching.

April 4, 2016 at 21:02 #1240892Billion – glad you’re still getting some use out of the Racing Ahead 20 systems book. I compiled that several years ago and it actually saved the magazine – along with the Fenman book — at the time because it sold so many copies.
That was before I passed Racing Ahead on to the current owners, who have much stronger resources than I could ever have. I can definitively say that it’s just non-handicaps – no other caveats. Maybe except races where hardly any of the runners have previous form.
Will be interested to see if your Clive Holt addition brings in the winners.April 5, 2016 at 09:45 #1240918Hi billion
I was going to answer your second query but Mulls74 has beat me to it.

Oh! and gave a more correct answer in relation to that system.
April 5, 2016 at 10:31 #1240922I always consider Claimers to be handicaps as in effect the trainer handicaps his own horse.

Mulls74 – interesting regarding the 20 Super Systems booklet, one never knows who you can bump into at these places.
Spot-SF-FcFav + Clive Holt today finds one: –
Ludlow
3.25 BRISE VENDEENEE (score total for 2 places of 2nd & 3rd = 5pts) £1.65 at 2/1 with Stan James

I have after a little fuss acquired the Racing Ahead 2nd booklet – Super System volume 2 and wonder if you have any opinion regarding the content.
For Fun I have decided on two SP favourites at Pontefract in the 4.20 and 5.55.

April 5, 2016 at 11:19 #1240928Is that the one that focuses on profitable favourites that must be a good five years old now?
