I think that today I may have placed my worst ever bet.
To explain, I persuaded myself that Hibaayeb was a nailed on each way bet in the Yorkshire Oaks.
Even though I never succeed when betting Godolphin animals, I still went ahead and bet it.
I decided to remember the fact that she started favourite for the Oaks and decided to ignore that performance because of a combination of the ground and the course.
I even managed to ignore the last German run as being simply an off day, as surely Godolphin wouldn’t keep running her at this level and reopposing horses that had already beaten her, if they didn’t retain faith in her.
Result – stone cold last.
Anyone willing to share any of their daft bets ?August 19, 2010 at 19:25 #313650Mine was probably the last time I backed a horse ridden by Richard Hills!
Daft because I would have been telling myself time and again that it was the last time I would back anything with him on and kept not listening to myself..
Will have been quite a long time ago now though because I stick to it now!

He’s shocking isn’t he, I backed the horse he was on in the race the John Oxx raider didn’t feature.
August 19, 2010 at 20:27 #313657I laid Germany £2@1.01 towards the end of the Eurovision Song Contest this year, just to (a) green up the entire field and (b) I’d never bet or laid at 1.01 before.
Waste of £2 of my profit.
August 19, 2010 at 20:41 #313660I backed Jedward to win whatever it was….I saw them live at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago…that’s when I realised it was the worst bet

Me too, not followed him on any horse since Elzaam. My Dad hasn’t had one of his horses in 10 years.
August 19, 2010 at 21:51 #313674Q a Richard Hills treble tomorrow
August 19, 2010 at 22:22 #313681This probably doesn’t class as the ‘daftest’ bet I’ve ever had but it definitely classes as the ‘daftest’ assumption.
Being a divorced dad of two, I have my two wonderful children on a weekend so my usual night out is a Wednesday – down the pub with the lads for karaoke, pie n peas and a game of pool and all that.
Anyway, on one Wednesday night Liverpool were playing AC Milan in the Champions League final. I fancied AC Milan strongly, so strongly in fact that I believed the 9/4 about them winning HT/FT was a better value bet than backing them to just win at 10/11.
I had a very sizeable (by my standards) bet on my selection and stayed at home to watch the game. I was delighted to see Milan go in at half time 3-0 up. A few options were now open to me; sit back and enjoy the second half with a few beers, back Liverpool on Betfair at huge odds etc were just a few of my options.
But no, what did I decide to do instead? I went to my local, put £200 behind the bar in exchange for the relevant amount of beer tokens, and dished the tokens out to my friends and the people in the pub. I assumed that Milan were home and hosed and that the next day I’d be quite a lot richer.
Amazingly, I didn’t even know that my bet had lost until near midnight when I offered to lend a friend some cash to go into town with us. He felt guily about lending the money but I told him not to worry, I’d won a lot of cash on Milan. It was only then that I was told Liverpool had made the mother of all comebacks.
I still went to the town, got drunk, and then spent the next few weeks eating tins of hot dogs and stale bread
August 19, 2010 at 22:37 #313683If its any consolation One Eye, I had a similar experience.
Although no longer living in Liverpool, and, as all true Liverpudlians, being an Evertonian, I was made up at half time.
I took my lads to the off licence to choose their preference and headed to a local beauty spot with our tent. We had 2 great days, and I was gutted to get back and find out what had happened. Lol. Still you are born a blue, you just become a red !August 20, 2010 at 08:37 #313730I wonder if anyone on the forum has the stats for backing Richard Hills blind in handicaps at Betfair SP. Anyone?
August 20, 2010 at 08:48 #313733The Richard Hills stat I’d be much more interested in would be short priced favourite’s turned over when riding for H.A.M?
Even the stat of all rides for H.A.M against all rides for anyone else would be interesting too…
