Dare I compare the final paragraph with the treatment meted out to Henderson. In Curleys case all the horses in his yard are to be watched for a year.
I said he never races horses who are drugged.
The enquiry found "After considering the evidence, including a statement from Curley, the Panel was unable to establish the source of the substance, and could not therefore be satisfied that the administration of the substance was accidental".
So they could not be satisfied of his innocence. How can one prove that the administration of a drug was accidental. How I ask you can the administration of a drug be an accident? They were not able to prove his innocence which is next to impossible to do in any case.A verdict of Not Guilty is a common occurance.I never heard of Not Innocent verdict except in this case. I cannot prove his innocence either. But he was certainly not proven guilty which is a different matter altogether.
The case does not proven that Barney raced horses which he knew were doped.Which is my position.March 2, 2011 at 16:59 #342965Maybe Curley should take a leaf out of OJ Simpson’s book and begin the search for the real dopers.
The motive’s clearly there. Oh, sure, a horse beaten out the park on recent outings wouldn’t appear the ideal candidate to inject some ACP into, but we all know how much money can sometimes come for such beasts when they are in Curley’s charge.
Like you Andy, I think I speak for all punters when I say we should not rest until these dopers are discovered and taken out of the game. The thought of them still being at large and subsequently getting their hands on this straight-batted sufferer’s money through nefarious means gives me sleepless nights.
March 3, 2011 at 08:12 #343040Could hardly disagree. First doper Henderson second doper Johnson. We lost a wonderful opportunity to get rid of one maybe we will be luckier with the other. Then when we have reigned in the big boys we can focus on the lesser lights.
PS we don’t have to search for the real dopers they are right there before your eyes.
Barney is a mere minion in the world of racing.A small time operator who loves the racing scene.A sponsor of young jockeys and supporter of the bettor against the bookies, basically a non entity who likes to live in the shadow of the big names and make an honest living by training his own horses.A guy struggling to make a living in a sport he loves. With more cajones than most I dare say.A small fish swimming with the sharks and enjoying it.Since i never gamble or bet
I can look at Barney without filters, with a clear vision and a pure mind and like most honest men I can admire the good that I see.And that goodness is what makes Barney so lovable. He leaves the arena with two thumbs up from me.March 3, 2011 at 11:11 #343065And the Krays only sorted out bad guys and loved their mum.
March 3, 2011 at 14:09 #343097Get in the game boys , train a few for yourself ,get them under handicapped , have it bang off – say a cool million or so , then repeat intermittently ….think you may find it’s just not quite that easy . Right side of the tracks or wrong side , it’s just not that easy . After all there are hundreds of trainers out there , many of whom have under handicapped horses ( for one reason or another ) yet there don’t seem to be all that many seven figure coups landed . Barney Curley , gambling legend.
March 3, 2011 at 15:33 #343109Hi David; love your attitude to the Jockey Club etc.
March 3, 2011 at 16:36 #343119I’m sure many have read it before but I thought it was pertinent to this thread:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/barney-curley-nobody-will-win-as-much-on-horse-racing-in-100-years-1988728.html
March 3, 2011 at 16:56 #343122Good read that. Something I’ll try and remember next time I’m looking too hard for one to back:
"Because bookmakers are always trying something new, to rob punters, to get them to bite.
That’s what beats them. The greed.

July 25, 2011 at 08:16 #365726Me Fein reappears this evening at Uttoxeter, 9:00, carrying just 10st 4lbs in a 0-95 2M handicap hurdle. On the form shown at Huntingdon, the last time he ran on good ground, he looks to have about 21lbs in hand.
At the time of writing, best offer is 9/2 from Skybet, Tote and Betfred, although I don’t suppose any bookie will be accepting much more than £20 at that price!
Slightly shorter on BF, but no liquidity there either.
