the coverage has been ok – I’m not elitist or a snob – its just normal people enjoying themselves .. nothing wrong with that :D

Want I havent liked was the landing camera showing live pictures of stricken horses with sound as well, very sickening and seemed to last forever. Truely horrible and that will be my overriding memory so far however much I try and forget that horrible few seconds

Apart from that I have enjoyed it as I like some of the jockey interviews – however amateurish – and it is a bit of a change from the usual without the adverts.

Excellent coverage on RUK, even allowing for Alan Algae’s lunchtime nonsense.

…is that what you think of all women then? sounds like it to me.

Not at all. Some of them never aspire to those dizzy heights.

well your attitude suggests otherwise…to me.

Thank you for reminding me of the tragic incident re The Grey Bomber, I think it must have been the sire, and no it didn’t cost me a packet, perhaps £2 e.w.

Anyway, enjoy your racing – if you can.

It’s very difficult to know where you’re coming from, certainly wearing a bag of chips on each shoulder, that do little to promote your sex. Interesting that you defended the offensive ( to me ) coverage, on the basis that it was trivial. Is that how you see women?

Why don’t you just concentrate on the ironing and washing up in future?

Ha ha. You don’t half know how to please a woman.

    Prepare for war. :)

…how offensive and patronising. Why shouldn’t they enjoy themselves at the races? some of you people….really.

As both an elitist and a snob, and therefore a member of a threatened minority, I have to say that I find Ugly Mare’s defence of the indefensible extremely condescending. I have a perfect right to enjoy my superiority, thank you, without having to put up with such effusions of toffee-nosed moral superiority.

The question she should be asking – if Ugly Mare

    is

    a she: the

    nom de plume

smacks of working class male chauvinism to me … the question she should be asking is "why

    should

these ladies enjoy themselves at the races?". They aren’t dressed for it, they know nothing about it, they care more about lining up for inspection on TV than lining up around the paddock to see the horses; they spoil it for the

    cognoscenti

; and by the sixth race they’ll be more or less insensible with liquor, which they could just as easily manage inside their snug little Bootle semi-detached villas.

It’s time Ugly Mare showed some understanding for us elitist snobs, rather than taking this opportunity to attack our fundamental value system!

(PS: I didn’t actually see these ladies, as I was sticking with the admirably exclusive Mr Luck on RUK. He and Mr Cunningham suggested that the ladies in question might consider laying Coq Hardy, or According To Dick.)

I heard Messrs luck and cunningham sniggering like 2 schoolboys after their comments, hardly perrier award material.

I can put up with the inane bits with the laydeez as a bit of local colour.
I`ve a much bigger problem with the cameras cutting to winning connections as soon as their animal is over the line. Sod the gallant also rans who complete the Topham course.

….lol!…please keep up, men do that sort of thing these days.

Of course I don’t see women as trivial, what an odd question, but the events such as fashion competitions primarily for Ladies Day’s may seem so although a decent prize was on offer today. Incidentally, I have entered one such competition in the past.

No, I don’t have chips on the shoulder, I just try to fight misogyny wherever one finds it. Something wrong with doing that?

Pinza, I’m surprised at you, although I believe your post essentially a wind up, like so many are.

well – take care of yourselves :) .

Added to this we have the young 20 something’s wearing flat caps like old totters…christ.

Indeed. I’ve asked my uncle at the Home Office if there isn’t something that can be done about it. We have to draw the line somewhere.

If you ask me (no-one does, but I’m going to vent anyway) one of the nastiest aspects of modern Britain is the way our class system has dissolved into a blamanche of prejudice, from which we can spoon (metaphor still going, eat your heart out Mr Down) great soggy lumps of…of….of….bigotry with which we sate our appetite for degrading our fellow men and women. (Stretched a bit there, but I think I got away with it).

By all means slate the BBC for filling our screens with non-horse related goings-on during a major meeting (a valid point) but there is no need to resort to such unpleasantness. Come June, many on here will be venting their spleen about the egregious little chap who regards millinery as a matter of life and death and for whom anyone without a peerage is fair game for a bitchy aside or two (no, not Willie Carson) but that is precisely what has been going on in this thread.

In summary, I may not enjoy painting myself brown, wandering around in public wearing nothing but a silk scarf (apart from the second Sunday after Whitsun) and spoiling perfectly good vodka with a caffeine based supplement, but I shall defend to the death the right of the women of Liverpool to do so.

I’m just curious to know more about the ‘snug little Bootle semi-detached villas.’

Must admit, that part of North Liverpool is not known for such abodes, but hey-ho ..

I’m not aware that too many afternoons of TV racing coverage feature a focus on knuckleheads who’ve over indulged and can barely string a sentence together.

The temptation to leap in with a reference to Channel Four is very nearly overwhelming……must resist, must resist…..

Ah, but you have to know where to look – Bootle has always been a name which teems, for me, with a covert sense of affluent sophistication. When I make my pile, it’ll be Bootle for me — you can keep your Poyntons and Prestburys!

I agree completely with this, thanks for posting it. The worst I think was Mel In Blue’s fall at Becher’s yesterday, where we got to see the horrific final moments deemed not worthy of mention by the 3 men in the studio during the race review.

Is that a portmanteau word for an avalanche of blancmange?!

    Some metaphor!

I like that! An avalanche of blancmange. Far better than what I meant to post and an even more impressive metaphor. Good work, Venusian!
