Looked a pretty impressive winner at Cheltenham on only his second start. It didn’t immediately strike me that those behind were going to improve past him. 5/2 looked reasonable but it seems from Oddschecker that they can’t give him away. He is the form pick – is there a problem we don’t know about? If he flops it will certainly look like it.

in the last few years the winner of the Cheltenham race has not done well at this one maybe thats the reason………..?? Cork All star and Hairy Molly are to recent ones….

Mullins had a bumper winner at Cork last Sunday so I’d say the stable in general are ok.

To be fair most of the field are drifting in light of the support for Total Excitement – 33s into 12s.

Given the choice between a horse who has struggled to win a bumper and the Cheltenham Fesival Bumper winner which one would seem the most likely winner?

That’s why one is 5/2 and the other was 33/1: it’s all about the price, and 5/2 was too short given how competitive this race is.

The bumper is less competitive than the Cheltenham equivalent so 5/2 would have been far from unreasonable. As for the ‘springer’ 33/1 would have seemed about right on what it has shown on the track.

He’s outstayed them all at Cheltenham and looked very much at home on the track.

This different course may not act so much in his favour so bookies will take the chance on him.

I think they are taking the risk that in this class Punchestown may not be as suitable to him.

He won here but not in this class and he didn’t exactly go to Cheltenham with a lot of confidenece behind him for a Mullins horse.

I don’t think the would be gambles on other amount to much as if this was being run at Chelteham now he would be nearer 11/10 than 0/30.

Great price and would kick myself if I bet against him and he won.

To say the least it will be interesting to see how he progresses next season. I presume he will start at the minimum trip although he should stay further. His full brother (Hot Zone) is clearly in a different league so it is probably unwise to read too much into the way he has been campaigned. The dam is a full sister to Hidebound who despite being by Buckskin showed plenty of promise over the minimum trip. Whichever way he goes I suspect Cousin Vinny would now be favourite for both Cheltenham novice events if markets existed.

His (punter/bookmaker) owner was interviewed before the race on TV and said connections were not backing him primarily due to the poor record of Cheltenham Bumper winners in the race.
Mullins was interviewed after the race and said the horse had worked three times since Cheltenham ……….. didn’t work well at home on the first two occasions but was better when taken away to work last Saturday.
One of the major on-track layers was asked about the drift and said they had major liabilities on CR and EI.
