Read and understand this "Reet Hard":

Sea The Stars won the Guineas, the Derby and the Arc. A feat no other horse has ever achieved. A horse in a million.

You finding fault with his Guineas form is sad.

You telling us under different "circumstances" that Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman would have beaten Sea The Stars? You can’t be serious.

While you are at it, tell us a stronger Guineas in the last ten years?

Else, come to your senses and pipe down.

Sea The Stars was a rare racehorse. People like you castigating a genuine great, for whatever reason I don’t know, only serves to highlight their own inadequacies. No excuse for what you are saying. You are either winding up or have no idea of what a great racehorse is.

It wasn’t a strong Guineas on form. The best guide is Delegator, who ran up to his best. Delegator had close formlines with Mastercraftsman, and both of those are good but not great milers (Rip easily better than both on fast ground).
Rip and Mastercraftsman were both first-up and nowhere near their best as you’d expect, Cityscape was beaten 23 lengths. Sea The Stars beat horses who would go on to win good races but only Delegator ran near his best. Still, STS beat him cosily when probably not 100% so I think he could’ve given Rip a race over a mile.

I disagree with reet hard on his assessment that Rip Van Winkle didn’t see out the Eclipse. Jimmy Fortune had to straighten him up late killing some of his momentum (not enough that he could’ve beaten the winner) but he still kept on strongly, and times suggest that both he and STS ran huge races.

Sea The Stars is the greatest horse ever IMO.

His 6 victories will never be matched again IMO.

    Incredible horse

    Presto,

What would you consider a good Guineas?

    Frankels?
    Makfis?
    Cockney Rebels?

You telling me that these were stronger races than the Guineas that Sea The Stars won?

Mastercraftsman was not a great miler I agree but he was a very good one. Won the Irish Guineas and James Palace after his Guineas win. Well above average.

Delegator is/was a good miler too.

Sea The Stars won the Guineas because he was a great racehorse. Can we agree on that? Not because the horses behind him were bad?

If Reet Hard thinks Rip Van Winkle didn’t see out the Eclipse, than he’s ever more deluded than we thought. Why does he have to complicate things when it’s so obvious. Sea The Stars beat Rip Van Winkle that day because he was superior racehorse.

Arguably Sea the Stars is the best racehorse in the middle distance category with Sea Bird.Over 10 furlongs arguably the best ever.Like Mill Reef and Ribot he was never tested on soft ground,or raced as a 4 year old. However the authority with which he won such big races in succession makes him a worthy contender to Sea bird and nose out the likes of Mill Reef,Nijisnky and Dancing Brave. He simply revealed amazing powers of acceleration and posessed every ingredient of the perfect horse.Imagine Tony Morris rating im on par with Sea Bird and Ian Balding rating him ahead oh his own champion ,Mill Reef.He baet the highest class of opposition in mastercraftsman,Rip van Winkle,Youzmain,Fame to Glory etc.

    Himself.

I agree with your evaluation which does justice to all the superstars placing them all in the correct light. However have you not forgotten Shergar? In 1981 he trounced his opposition in the Epsom Derby like no horse before and even eclipsed Sea Bird’s 1965 win.He cruised on the bit to win by 10 lengths which would well have been 15 had the rider not eased him. Many believe on the day of the Epsom Derby he was the best horse they had seen.I would bracket Shergar with the likes of Sea Bird,Mill Reef and Nijinsky.Surprised his name was not mentioned in the discussion.Ofcourse he did not face the same level of opposition as Sea Bird or Dancing Brave and did not beat older horses or mantain his form throughout the season like Mill Reef or Nijinsky. However no flat racehorse displayed as much superiority over his rivals as a 3 year old.
