Strong looking favourite in Mother Earth who you could set your clock by. She always runs a strong race and goes close, however at a best price 3/2 i think she’s opposable. She’s drawn 2 in a bigger field than recent renewals and i think that’s not ideal for her. I don’t think she sets too high a standard either.
Twomey sends Pearls Galore here and i was surprised to see him run her again in a G3 after having won one the month before, but again she looked very very good. She’s very dangerous, but i am not 100% certain on her over a mile at this track- she’s drawn 7 and likes to race prominent which has to be another negative to my eye. Billy Lee seems to have stayed loyal to Epona Plays as well, which i have to admit i’m slightly surprised by even though on strict ratings he’s made the right call. Perhaps it’s the 1m around Leopardstown that’s made him sway towards her. I think Epona Plays would appreciate more cut than is probably likely on Saturday but she’s reasonably solid.

The one that’s caught my eye in the main is Acanella for Ger Lyons + Keane. She looked smart on debut but looked slightly disappointing thereafter. However i think she’s slowly been improving and learning watchign her races back. At Killarney she was too far wide, and Keane went gentle on her and she ran on nicely. At Gowran again, she was too far back and was allowed to travelled through horses to finish her race of pretty strongly in 6th. That form doesn’t look strong enough to be winning a G1 Matron especially with the favourite having solid G1 form, but i think it’s been a case of her winning her maiden first time out purely on her ability, and now she’s had to do her learning in tougher races. Her last run when she beat Champers Elysees who i don’t believe is quite the same horse this year, is still decent form, and i do think she done it more comfortably than the margin suggests. I also think it points to her having learnt a bundle and i expect her to continue progressing now the pennies dropped. She’s got a lovely pedigree, stays further already and will love the ground.

    10/1

The lord alone knows why Hannon ran Snow Lantern in France rather than this.
