Coolmore Company fined €100,000 for hedgerow destruction

Unprecedented fine for Coolmore owned Company. From what I hear this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they have destroyed.

Good. Planting some crappy little whips doesn’t balance out the wreckage and proceeding with works when they had been ordered not to is arrogant. €100k is nothing to them but still, glad they got fined. Ripping up hedges or using a disc cutter to reduce them to tattered lollipop sticks is far, far too common here.

Legislation caps it at €200,000 for a first offence but jail would be on the cards for a repeat.
