…another valuable prize landed by the maestro courtesy of the admirable Look Busy.

You could say much the same about Borderlescott’s trainer, R Bastiman who (I believe)took over from his father and will soon pass over the reins to his son.
These fellas have horses bred into their blood.

It’s been suggested that this revival in fortunes is due to the return to Cockerham of one J Berry, absent for some years. I’m not sure if this is true, but it would make sense. Only someone with their eyes shut would claim that Alan Berry knows what he’s been doing generally. The man has been a laughing stock left to his own devices.
Not sure if Robin Bastiman took over the licence from his father, but if he did it was an awfully long time ago as he’s been training as long as I’ve been betting on Catterick Sellers
August 24, 2008 at 15:31 #177988I thought it rather summed Berry up that even in one of his finest moments, he puts up a 5 lb claimer that can’t claim.
August 24, 2008 at 15:50 #177990I see someone in today’s Racing Post wants Alan Berry to get the horses he deserves.
Be careful what you wish for….

He did take over from his father, back in 1975.
Re: an earlier posting, I think the successor to Robin next year will be his daughter Rebecca, rather than his son Harvey.

Will this be a smooth handover so we only get to see R. Bastiman in the paper?

I’ve often wondered whether the Bastiman’s have The Castigator, Time For The Clan etc. at home as family pets
