Ian McKenzie commentated at Hexham this afternoon, after another request for information about the disapperance of Dougie Fraser
June 13, 2010 at 23:12 #300392Unconfirmed reports on one of the other forums that his body has been found in the river.

Tragic news. God only knows what the poor fella must have been going through.
June 13, 2010 at 23:24 #300396Really upsetting news.
June 13, 2010 at 23:40 #300399Terrible news and your heart goes out to friends and family who will be eaten up with questioning themselves as to what they could have done.
Unfortunately, as much as some of the stigma has been taken away from mental illness in recent years there are many, many people out there that suffer and go undiagnosed for years through fear of repercussion in their private life and career … and they become extremely adept at hiding it, even from those people that are closest to them.
Very sad.
June 13, 2010 at 23:42 #300400Depressing news.
People leave this world every day, and with each loss, someone is surely affected. But when someone dies that has given you great pleasure down the years it leaves an enormous feeling of emptiness. George Best, Brian Clough, those deaths choked me, but the inevitable news that Doug has gone is, in one sense, the worst feeling I’ve had for a long time.
Horse Racing has been my life for the best part of 20 years now and Doug Fraser was an integral part of that. His loss is huge and the racing world will be a lot poorer without him.
My thoughts go out to his friends and family, and to everyone who knew Doug. A lot of us won’t have known him personally, but we’ve all had winners and losers called by him, though for reason we’ll all appreciate, any money won or lost on a race called by Doug now seems insignificant. I’m sure we’d all pay any cost to have Doug commentating again.
I hope he is at ease now in the sky above and that people will remember him for being a unique talent in his field. God bless you Doug.

Thats a really nice post, I didn’t know him but his distinct commentary was brilliant, for the last fortnight, I’ve been worried sick about the situation and my feelings goes out to all his family and friends, you’ll be sorely missed Doug. RIP.

June 14, 2010 at 06:56 #300415Agreed a touching post by OneEye.
The one "good" aspect of his body being found is at least his family and friends now know what has happened to him the uncertainly has gone. Although as time went on without sightings this result was inevitable.
There are still many unanswered questions, not least why? Perhaps we will never find out.
It is desparately sad news and I must admit I had a very sleepless night last night having heard the unconfirmed reports last night and I am not ashamed to admit I do have a tear rolling down my cheek as I write this.
The saddest part for me is that Doug was so well liked and was held is such affection. It is really sad to think that if he had something troubling him then he felt unable toto talk to someone and shar whatever it was that was worrying him – assuming something was playing on his mind.
I am actually hoping the post mortem shows something no more sinister than he wasn’t feeling well, had gone for some fresh air and had a heart attack or something and fell in the river. We shall have to wait and see.
I had only met him a handful of times but found him to be a really quiet, pleasant man.
Many knew him far longer and a lot better than me my hear goes out to them and his family.
Rest in peace Dougie.
June 14, 2010 at 07:39 #300424Just wondering…was he known as a heavy gambler? Just seemed a coincidence that he went missing on Derby Day.
June 14, 2010 at 08:08 #300429Absolutely tragic news.
I just cant put it into words.
Absolutely awful news and it seems so surreal just listening to his commentaries at the back end of May and now this has happened.
He always came across as a really good commentator, a very listen-able accent and tone to his voice, and a very nice guy.
Terribly sad news for family and friends and for the racing world, who have lost a very nice individual.
RIP Dougie.
June 14, 2010 at 08:16 #300430Tragic
Fitting, sweet epitaphs above so little else to add
Liked him, his warm smile, his voice and his no-frills professional race calling
at peace?
June 14, 2010 at 08:33 #300433Not good news I’m afraid West Yorkshire police have confirmed a body was recovered from the river Aire in central Leeds yesterday formal id expected later.
June 14, 2010 at 09:40 #300443The first thing i have done every morning for the last week is to check on any updates about the welfare of poor Dougie on the RP Website! The guy must have had some severe private issues demonising his mind to do what he"s done! Things like this put everything into context,i know when i get my bloody Gas bill i think £500! Thieving Rob dogs, but instead of letting it get to me i always have something to look forward to,like a round of Golf,Wimbledon,The World Cup and of course Royal Ascot,i"m sure Dougie had many great moments to look forward to aswell, the trouble is anyone who suffers from depression and there"s a 1001 types out there can wake up in the morning and for the briefest second think to themselves I"m "normal" again, then it hits them like a Ton of bricks and they just want to curl up and die unforunately! Its an evil illness and a very difficult one to treat, Rest in peace Doug.
June 14, 2010 at 10:00 #300448ever wondered what effect we can have on the state of mind of people by posting insults on this forum and others
critcicism when it’s due is ok I suppose like with Robert Greens’ goalkeeping but sometimes its just insultingeven now theres a pointless thread having a go at Jim McGrath
I post here regularly under a different name but I’m terrified today that we may all have contribued to something terrible, shame on all of usJune 14, 2010 at 10:37 #300457Very, very sad development.I’m sure ythis is a terrible time for his family and friends and my thoughts are with them.
Geordielad – I’m afraid in a public role public criticism is part and parcel. I agree it should be fair but often these things are a matter of judgement (i.e. what one person thinks is fair criticism another may look on as unfair). However, anyone who thinks anything is grossly unfair should contact me via email of pm.
June 14, 2010 at 12:04 #300469There only seemed to be one outcome, unfortunately. The nearest I’ve ever come to anything like this was when me daughter had a row with her boyfriend and disappeared for just a couple of hours..how that would feel over a period of days is unimaginable. My heart goes out to all his friends and family.
June 14, 2010 at 12:11 #300471I’m sure they’ll be a very moving tribute at Sedgefield today, a meeting
he was scheduled to commentate on.Very sad.
